They say it's a poor man's fish because it's cheap. But I prefer it over other expensive fish because even just fried I can already be satisfied! I just love fried gg or galunggong (roundscad)! It's just so tasty. I love it with rice in breakfast, lunch or dinner. I love it fried and a little crispy. I prefer it without condiments. Just its salty taste is enough to make me eat a lot. :p What about you people? Do you like fried gg? What fried fish do you like?

I dunno what kind of fish is that, but then again i might know because different names are used everywhere.. hehe My favourite fried fish has to be snow fish or sea bass. Their meat is smooth when it's fresh and the skin is very crispy at the right temperature and time ^^ While my 2nd favourite would be Black promfret. It's delicious when it's seasoned well, especially when it's slightly salty.. haha

It's called roundscad in English. Oh well, maybe it's not popular there in your country.

Sounds quite delicious to me. But, in my area here, we don't have that type of fish. Do you have a picture of it? Maybe when i have the chance to visit the Philippines in future, would like you to bring me around the Philippines and taste all these different type of delicacies.

Hi Secretbear! I am also one of those who really like eating gg. You are right that its so tasty and also can be cooked easily into several dishes. I actually grew up with this fish coz my mother always buy it and its also one of my father's favorite. With my mom and I as well as my brother, we like it to fried directly and dip on catsup or soy-mansi but with my father, he don't like it that way, what he wanted is to cook it first, the "sinaing/paksiw" way and then fried it the next day, and the oil that he use to fry is would be the same oil that he will use for his fried rice! And also he just like the smaller variety of gg...if not, he won't enjoy it... Aside from gg, I also love tilapia...but I like the black one or those that are from Talisay, Batangas...I feel like its more tasty. "Tambakol" also taste good for me.

Your father knows how to enjoy his meals. I like fried gg, too that are cooked sinaing or paksiw first. But I like bigger gg. Yup, tambakol is another fish that's really tasty and I like it, too. I like it sinaing.

Hehehe ... I find it interesting that we both like, rather, love, roundscad or galunggong as we refer to it here in the Philippines. And just like you, I also like it fried. But I also like it cooked paksiw-style (with or without soup), and even adobo-style (both dry or with sauce versions). I just love galunggong, period! It is my comfort food. My whole family knows this. And I especially prefer them big when I will eat them fried (dipped in catsup), and small-to-medium when cooked paksiw or adobo-style. I find the smaller ones even more flavorful. Yum!!

I like the bigger ones as it is easier to eat and I can easily remove the bones. I love gg!!!

Lol! The first time I read your title I thought it was "Egg" in typo I have to read the whole discussion topic to be reminded that "Galunggong" is indeed "GG"! Yeah! I love GG and I love it fried I love to have it dipped in soy sauce and calamansi though it adds saltiness to it. I'm quite fond of salty foods. I can imagine myself eating GG with rice and I'm using my hands... YUM!

That's exactly why I wrote gg instead of spelling it out! At least readers will have to read the whole discussion. Ah, I like eating with my hand, too. It's just so tasty when you taste your own fingers. ^^

I have never had that kind of fish, but did just look it up on Wikipedia and image search. I am addicted to Tilapia, though. A few years ago we did not have Tilapia in our markets here in the US, but now it is everywhere and affordable.

Dear friend, I mostly avoid non-veg. But egg I do have it, there are lots of vaireties with egg. Here in sourth India we do have egg dosa (Mixed with egg), egg curry, egg biriyani, egg porichuthu (egg roasted into pieces with masalas and spices) lots egg varieties. It is comparetly as you noted cheap and eary combination here, with bread, rice, chappatties, rotties, paratas etc. Moreover it is good for health.

In the past its called poor man's fish but today like you said, its cheap. But today, it is greatly expensive than other fish that is offered in the market. I love also fried roundscad with a mix of tomatoes and a sauce of Bagoong.

I think, it is still generally cheaper than other fishes (of course, not all fish). But the price still varies with supply and demand.

This is my second favorite fish because the most delicious fried fish for me is bangus(milk fish). I love to eat galunggong(roundscad) when prepared to cook like paksiw (fish stewed in vinegar) then fried it. This is the perfect viand that i eat many cups of rice. But i can also eat it fried just make sure you prepared soy sauce with slice tomatoes.

I like milkfish, too especially when fried or sinigang but it's just so time-consuming to eat it most of the times. I also like gg stewed in vinegar and then fried, too. And yeah, fresh tomatoes as a side dish will make eating more yummier!
