You know the economy is bad when you have to sacrifice from making good money to working for minimum wage just to get guaranteed work and pay. But this morning, I did just that. Until I can get my forklift license, I need to find work to do. At the moment I'm waiting to hear back about 2 painting jobs, if I can get one or both of them, the bills will be paid this month. I have to see if I get those jobs, if I do, then I can go get my license once I'm done the work. But I'll be working for minimum wage if there is something available. I'll have to see what happens though, just playing it day by day. My boss had called me this morning about a painting job I had sent to her last night. She told me to try to get it for myself, then I wouldn't have to worry about the bills. So I contacted the person today. Hopefully I can get that job, and another one that someone wants a quote for. Here's hoping.

It sounds as if your boss is very supportive of you in this case. I hope you can get the jobs. If you find them without the temp agency you can set a higher rate of pay, I know, so that will be good and you will probably find more jobs through word of mouth.

hi kris I hope you get both of them and hang in there as you get that forklift training you will be set. I remember some fifty two years ago I was three months pregnant with morning sickness and looking out my bathroom window at a wo an about my age then handling a fork lift and wow was she good. even then in the US we women were doing male jobs and doing them well too. I thought that day I am working as a nurses aide for peanuts while she is outside having a ball just lifting things with that fork lift.wow.Even back then she was paid a lot more than i was getting.Good luck,I am sending some prayers to help you get those paining jobs.

I have worked for temp agencies before, but then I never had especially high paying jobs even before working for them. With the economy the way it was when I was looking for a job, I was lucky that I had a degree and that I was able to pass the qualification test for the two temp jobs that I had over the two year period between 2009 and 2010. I graded high school science tests for the state-wide end of course tests, but that only lasted a month or so. Then I worked for the census in 2010. Since I was never able to find steady work, I was on unemployment, but only got $100/week since I have very limited income during the qualifying period for the previous year. Did you ever get one of those jobs or have you started doing your own contracting instead of working for another contractor? It just seems like your boss is right when she suggests that you get the job for yourself so you can pay your bills. Good luck!!!

I know, it is bad when you can't be making good money. I am working a minimum wage job that doesn't make much only a little bit and even that job is now cutting down on their hours. I can't wait till Christmas roll around. But I definitely do miss making a lot of money. I really hope you get the jobs that you need. Good Luck.

Good to hear that although things seem like they could be rough that you will continue to move forward and not allow you to get down. Fingers crossed for you and hope that at least if not both come through for you. It also sounds you are thinking about the entire big pictures, therefore best of luck and hope it all works out.

Job hunting is so frustrating! I spent the entire day, literally, job hunting with my boyfriend. We went to every store imaginable. Half of them weren't hiring, or we had to do the application online, or we had to go through a temp agency. We filled out applications for every place, even the ones who weren't hiring just so they had them on file, and went by a temp agency. I now have to work on a resume to send to the temp agency. And fill out the online applications. It's so frustrating, when you know half of them won't even call back. Hopefully we'll find something though. I hope you do! It's hard work just finding work!
