Not sure how many I Love Lucy fans there are on here...but I have to tell yoi Love Lucy!! I usually would catch it on TV Land and would laugh so hard, finally I bought the complete series and I have not laughed this hard at television show in a long while. I mean she was a true comedian and a darn good one at that. I find myself up at all times of the night because I can't seem to get enough of her. Now I am looking to buy her other popular series The Lucy Show. LOL!

Some background things you may or may not know about the show. It was filmed live in front of an audience and was perhaps the first TV show shot directly on film. Most TV at that time was shot on kinescope, a kind of early form of videotape. The network shows were all done in New York and shown on live TV, whereas the kinescope replays were shown on the west coast. Lucy did not want to uproot her family to New York and also wanted to do the show with Desi. Desi had a wandering eye and she did not trust him to be faithful is she went to New York without him. The use kinescope and the timing for the show didn't work for shows done on the west coast so Desi suggested putting all the shows on film. The network wondered what they would do with all the used film and Desi smartly said he would take them. Much of the early TV shows are lost because networks might have reused the kinescope tapes and kinescope in general doesn't last as long as film. (Even the west coast replays were fuzzy relative to live TV.) Holding onto the films saved the I Love Lucy shows and also allowed Desi to sell the reruns for syndication. This also helped him to start Desilu studios where a number of other early TV shows were made and filmed. Because Lucy was shot live, directly on film, it was also the first show to use a teleprompter, where the lines were written on a roll of paper that was spun for the actors. Lastly, William Frawley (Fred) and Vivian Vance(Ethel)did not get along throughout the production run of the show.

Desi also "invented" the use of three cameras on the set. And I am pretty knowledgable and I don't think they used paper telepromters..they memerized lines. No studio wanted the show as they said no one would believe an american girl would marry a cuban man so they did their own "pilot" show and too it on the road and it was a hit and that was when Lucy went with Desi cause she could trust him on his own. THen he got mad that the show was all about her, and she was more popular than he was and that was when the show ended as they divorced.

When I checked, I read that Jess Oppenheimer invented a 'through the lens' teleprompter which was used on the set. Paper teleprompters were heavily used on Perry Mason (and all later Burr TV shows and movies). The use of a teleprompter for ' Love Lucy' was mentioned in Burr's biography and I made the wrong assumption that they used the same kind in both shows. In Burr's case, he started out memorizing the his lines and lived out a trailer on the production lot but he got tired of getting up at early hours to memorize his lines, especially since they shot an average of 30 episodes each year with each show being shot in one week. Supposedly Desi became heavily involved with the growth of Desilu productions as they were making I Love Lucy. He said this caused him to look for outlets to relieve the pressure which lead to heavy drinking and womanizing, That lead to the divorce although they stayed as friends. I remember seeing an old Desi on a talk show once and he said that the biggest regret of his life was to cheat on Lucy.

I love the show as well. My name is Lucy and my friend is Rick so we play it out all the time - lol. We used to sit next to each other when we both worked in Tampa and people actually thought we were married and had a little Ricky at home - lol. I would ask him to pick up little Ricky since he left work earlier and he would say that Mama was coming from Havana next week. One year - for my birthday - he decorated my cubicle with all flashing lights and boas and a huge billboard that said - Lucy - you can finally be in the show! We had some great times!!

No question this show was a classic that I have enjoyed for so many years. It was sad to see the stars break up in real life and seeing Desi on talk shows taking about his life really made you realize that he knew the love of his life was gone. She went on to a very successful acting career and a great 2nd husband.

I am a big fan of I Love Lucy. I have all the DVD's, an I Love Lucy Wallet, all the I Love Lucy Christmas ornaments, and two tote bags with I Love Lucy. I stay up late at night to watch I Love Lucy on the Hallmark Channel. She was a great commedianne and I miss her dearly. She was a such a great actress and loves being around her friends. I know her childhood home was turned into a museum and someday I want to go see the museum. I loved the whole series, but I always loved it when she tried to get into Ricky's shows.

I love the show too, though I haven't seen in years and years. I should probably download the series now. I have downloaded most of the TV series that I like since I can't get them easily where I live. Downloading is the best option for me. She was great and so was the whole cast.

I love, "I Love Lucy!" I watch it whenever I can still! :) Though I haven't seen it on much lately. :( I ought to buy me the DVD series as well. I find myself watching a lot of old shows lately, since reality television just doesn't do it for me. I'm twenty-one, so most of my friends are into shows like "Jersey Shore" and "Teen Mom." Those shows just don't intrigue me anymore. So much drama and nonsense. I'd rather watch laid back, funny, old television shows!

You should by the collection. It is well worth the money! I can watch it all day long over and over and still get a good laugh. Yes it beats all of these reality tv shows that come on now-a-days.

I am a huge fan..have been for years! I love that show! It is true honest side splitting funny comedy! Never an episode goes by that you don't laugh! I have watched them so many times I can say the dialoge along with them! ANd still laugh and laugh! They just don't make shows like that anymore. I did buy her "Here's Lucy" one season, but it isn't as funny as I Love Lucy. I bought her other one "the Lucy Show" and it wasn't as funny either. It is really hard to let go of Lucy Ricardo. That seems so natural but in the others it seemed not quite a natural for the silly things to happen. I even used an episode the other day....the "the Ricardos Build a BBQ". Lucy wanted something for Ricky to do on his vacation instead of being underfoot...Ethel says..."why don't you do what I do when I want Fred to do something?" Lucy says "what do you do" and Ethel says.." I start a project and act like I am messing it up and Fred says "Oh, you dont know what you are doing. Let me do that" and he finishes the job!"..... The ceiling fans in my house get really dusty on the tops of them, and I bought this brush thing to brush them off...I am short so I can't reach on top of them standing. So I did it, he saw me do it, and when I was done, he went and got this other hand held cloth thing, and cuase he is tall he can reach on top so he does and shows me the dust that was left from the brugh thing I used and said...that brush isn't very good...see all this that was left? And I said, well, I can't reach on top. He said...I"ll do it.
