Yes, this is one incredible battle between humans versus extraterrestrials. Apparently, as the story unfolds, Battle L.A. was engaged when these aliens started attacking cities without any rhyme or reason, supposedly in seek of water resources to fuel their needs. Despite attempts to spin human interest stories amongst the soldiers and civilians involved in a desperate seek and rescue,this film fails miserably in spite of the unnecessary violence. The plot and subplots are paper-thin. I think this is one of those movie that is bent on selling violence and panders to action-prone youths particularly in this adrenaline charged world of today. For more elderly folks of the X Generation, best to skip such movies.
