I think no one argues that he is a special player. What is more important is his consistency and his hardwork that he puts in the game. When the ball is not with him he is helping the others in trying to win back the ball. And yes his hat-trick was again a great effort. Cheers! Ram

And he has recently said that he has no motivation problems, he wants to win every game, every trophy and he plans to play at Barcelona all his career. I guess this mentality is what made him so special, and so respected even by many fans of other teams.

Yes, his performance of Argentina is the one that raises the questions. I think if you look at some of the great modern players like Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney, they have failed to ignite their national sides. I feel the part of the reason is that these days one player making a lot of difference is not so much possible. What do you say? Cheers! Ram

I think Lionell Messi is the best example for Indonesian soccer players.Messi shows the best attitude as a professional football player. Messi proves that physical deficiency does not become an obstacle to a football player. Indonesian football player, in general, are always blaming their posture is shorter than other countries player; if suffered defeat when playing with other state football team. Messi proves that short posture is not a major problem in football game.

@vitakrakatoa : your name is so difficult my friend..how do you spell your name?? and whats the meaning in indonesa? messi is smaller than another player, but in football doesn`t require the taller player but the talented player... @rap : what about the mexican goalkeeper, Jorge campos?? or the smaller defender like cannavaro, roberto carlos?? Messi is central forward before changed by pep guardiola as winger forward...what about david villa? he is central forward in Spain national team..

I don't remember Jorge Campos, so I cannot say anything about him. Roberto Carlos was always a side defender and I said that the stature is not important there. I have never seen Messi playing as a central forward, and Villa is mostly playing as a mobile forward not as a regular center forward. As for Cannavaro, he was an exception, but he was never so great, his status quo was raised by his great world cup he made in 2006. But at Real he couldn't manage to lift up to the expectations. And if you have a team formed exclusively of small players, you will never win any trophy.

Stature is not so important if you play on as a winger or as a side defender. But goalkeepers, central defenders and center forwards are usually taller guys, because they need this in order to have a great aerial play.

Despite all the talk about Barcelona being the greatest club of all time, they are nothing without Messi. He is the one who makes the club tick. Score, create, entertain, etc. It is scary to know he is just so young. If nothing goes wrong, he will be Barcelona's greatest player and scorer.

rap, i aLWAYS see many "fight" word because compare between messi and ronaldo.. i don`t know why everyone always think that football is about one player.. yes, ronaldo is great..but he can`t nothing if mesut ozil, pepe, cassilas, kaka and so on did not play good and helps him for scoring.. what about messi?? yes messi is really wonderful kids.but without david villa, pedro, valdez, puyol, pique and so on, messi is only messi without magic... football is team work.footbal is team sports..and remember it..

That is what I said also, that a quality of a player is given by his team mates also, not only by the individual skills. And yes, the most important is to have a great team spirit, because that increases everybody's performance.

I think you are wrong here. Messi is Messi because he is a part of a great football style and that he has magnificent team mates around. I think without Xavi and Iniesta Barcelona wouldn't be so special, and Messi wouldn't be the Messi we know. And you can see that Messi cannot work his magic in the national team, because he has not the same team mates around and because they don't play the so called tiki taka system, which is very important, as it tires the opponents out. Messi is certainly a great player, but without the "spirit of Barcelona" he wouldn't be who he is now. But that is what I like about football, that the quality of a player depends a lot on the quality of the team mates, the system, the relationship between the players and coach and it depends on fans also.

What I like about Messi, next to his wonderful abilities on the field, that he remained humble and has not a great ego like Ronaldo. As for the game, after the send off was easy for Barcelona, because it is practically impossible to block them having a man down for 70 minutes. And we know that Plzen only played to limit the score, which means very defensively. All in all a great performance by Barcelona and Messi.

Usually people like Ronaldo will suffer a major downfall and that fall will be very hard to be accepted. Messi will always be remembered as an extraordinary football player, who remained fair and humble, no matter the success.

Well, you are right..Messi again shows his capability as the best player in the world..He has score hattrick twice in two consecutive matches after long awaited. He has score more than 200 goals for Barca and might be the all time top scorer for Barca. He has scored more than 15 times hattrick with Barca, his first hattrick when draw 3-3 in el Classico against Madrid.Wow, if we are talking about statistic will be two pages long about him alone. Now, everyone still waiting what he can do for Argentina..still waiting and hoping he can do better than what he have done with Barca.. Otherwise, he won't become the true football legend and never be the same with Diego Armando Maradona..my favorite player all time..

I think Messi will not be able to pull up the same performances at Argentina for many reasons. Argentina is full of egoistic players, the offensive players don't like to pass the ball, all of them try to find the opponent's goal and score. Argentina plays another style, where Messi cannot play so freely. And Argentina has no Xavi, no Iniesta, no Cesc and no other players who play mostly for Messi, as they know that he will finish the great play. Messi will always be tremendous at Barcelona, but at the national team only if the coach will change the tactics there.

@omschesunche : yes, messi will be legend for Barca i think..he is still 24 years old and he had many chances and times for making score and goal...so maybe in my opinion he can beat the record of top scorer for barcelona.. but he can nothing for Argentina..everybody must ask why?? he had quality, and his team (Argentina) had same level too with Barcelona.. @rap : i like your analysiz
