Sadly, but yes. I will be at the office during the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. I work in a call center and in this industry, we don't have holidays. It makes me miss my previous job so much. Boo hoo :'( I wish my vacation leave will be granted! *cross fingers* Is anyone on the same boat? :(

Hi girl_thinking, I am not working at all. However, when I was working I would always be off on those days. As for now I would gladly work those days if it meant that I would have a steady job and income. The economy has hit my life very hard.Through it all I am still blessed.

You are right, enjoying your life is important, but what if you celebrate for a few hours or days and then don't have a job for months, it will "kill you", since you would not be able to live... Maybe we need to celebrate on our daily offs first and then start thinking of the holidays...

Nowadays everybody needs money, I am working on holidays for the economy reasons too... It's hard, but is the only way to survive..

a pleasant day girl_thinking, maybe on my next journey, i will be on the same boat as yours. as i am thinking to apply in a call center. and this is also the reason why i did not accept the job at present since they are offering me a graveyard shift and a holiday schedules.

You are lucky you can choose when you want to apply, in my country if you find a job you should be pleased and work in order to survive. Are you sure you will not lost the position if you don't grab it now?

A pleasant day to you too Airasheila! Good luck to your application on the BPO industry. As you probably already have known, the pay is high but there's a catch! ;) You will work during unimaginable hours of the day... and night.... and every hour in between plus you will not be privileged of the holidays off anymore... but then again, the pay is high. oh well.. thanks for the response!

You are right, someone should work on that day. I agree doctors should work, policemen, firefighters but not the whole people, only those who are working in order to keep people safe and only because is needed!

Hi LaDeBoheme! Haha, I don't know what to response. Should I say I am glad that you are on the same boat or should I say, better luck next holiday to us? Hehe.. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and Ho Ho Ho to you too! =D

I am sorry to know that you have to work on Christmas and New Year's Eve. In China we don't have the Christmas holiday, but the Christams Eve is Saturday this year, I don't have to work that night. I don't like work on weekends or holidays too. But the fact is our company doesn't have too many holidays, only Sunday for weekend, and always 1 or 2 days less than the official public holidays, work overtime free of charge etc. That is unfair but we have no choices.

We don't have the officially Christmas holiday. Some young people may celebrate it on their own ways. We have our traditional Spring Festival which is the most important festival in our country for thousands of years. Have a nice weekend~

Hi sunli! :) What do you celebrate in China during the Christmas holiday then? I am not really very familiar with your religion. Thank you for sharing that information and hope to see more around here in Mylot! ^_^

I am sorry to hear that you will be working on the holidays. I understand what it is like because I always have to work holidays myself. It is never fun having to head to work just as everyone is getting ready for their holiday festivities.

Yes, it's hard to work on holidays, but you are working on every holiday? This is mad!! Everyone should have a celebration day with family, try to take an off on of those days..
• Philippines
10 Nov 11
Exactly Woody! It would really feel bad to walk away the door while your family is getting ready to serve the food and the gifts for the celebration.. Oh well, life. Thanks for the response and have a nice day!

That is the saddest part of some of these profession. I believe the same holds good for people in the armed services. Also the same holds good for the doctors and other such profession. So you are not alone if that is a good enough consolation. :) Cheers! Ram

Hi ram, Knowing that some people are in the same boat as I am is actually a bit consolation, you are right. I am just trying to look at the good things on it like spending time with my officemates/friends and earning more :)

Well,it will be a pity to can't enjoy Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve with one's family members, but stay working. But many jobs need employees working at holidays. Here in China, for example, the saleswomen in shopping malls are the busiest on holidays. Actually, they will have much more free time when we ordinary people are working busily. In my country, those who work on official festivals will get three times of salary, if it is the case, it is a compensation. Hope you can get that too.

Hello aprilsong! Now I am confuse, another friend responded that there is no Christmas in China.. hmm.. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and hope to see you more around! ^_^

I am lucky, a bit luckier than you. On my full - time job, I have at least 2 days off on Christmas days, and one day off on New Year Eve. But I also have a part time job too, so I have to work on that part - time job. So, I probably only have 1 day off instead of 2 days off. I still have to make money right?
• Philippines
23 Nov 11
Wow, that is really a good luck! ^_^ You have 2 jobs, one full time and one part time, yet, you are still free on Christmas day! That is a good timing. At least you can stay at home with your family to spend the Christmas eve :)

I am a freelance stylist and designer so I work at my own time. Everyone should have a day off during holidays. And specially during Christmas, I mean like duh! it is freaking Christmas. We should all be with the people we love and not be stuck at work.

It's good to organize your program yourself! You are free to work or not based on your feelings or events you shouldn't loose. I agree that in Christmas day everyone should have an off, is a very important day for Christians.

It's really sad to hear that you will work during the holidays. That's basically should us relax at that time. But anyway, just try to think another way, this is also another way to enjoy your life, just do not feel pressure and everything will be fine, just enjoy it cause you can't change that.
• Cyprus

I like this positive way of thinking. Since you cannot do anything to change a situation you should try to enjoy it at least! I try to do this when I am facing problems.

Now that won't be a merry christmas and happy new year for you. Same thing if you are a police, military, nurse, seaman, etc. those jobs really require you to work even in holidays like christmas. How I wish I'm still young and has nothing to worry at all. Well that's life anyway.. I like your profile pic.

Hi, thanks for liking my profile pic! It is Yomiko Readman of ROD movie :) Hopefully my Christmas won't be that sad, I am still praying on that vacation leave. I hope I get approved. If so, then I can spend another Noche Buena and New Year welcoming at home with my family! :)

I previously worked in a call center as well. True to be told, you normally don't have holidays there but they pay great for the service you render during holidays. For your leave, taking it from experience, for holidays they are mostly likely not to get an approval since it would be unfair to those who will render work hours because they are also scheduled to go to the office. But of course who knows, you might got the approval for it! Nevertheless, missing christmas eve and new year's eve is sad but as long as your not alone, try to find a way to celebrate with your frineds and officemates. We normally bring food in the office when I was also working in the call center and it's a big holiday.

I am sorry to hear that. Some industries don't have the holidays. I know it doesn't feel well since others all have a good time with their families and friends but you have to work. Perhaps you will have bonus to it? At least it is the advantage to work in the special holiday. I love China
• Philippines
10 Nov 11
Hi youless! Yes, there is an added compensation to working during holidays. It will be double pay. I hope if possible, even triple pay ^_^ But then there's the tax. Which I will not mention anymore. You see, there's the tax!!! _

This year I don't have to work in the holidays, but when I had a job in home health care team I had to work during christmas and I also worked on New Year's Eve. I was a bit sad that I wasn't able to spend christmas or New Year's Eve with my family, but the patients needed help every day, so we had to work when other people were on vacation. That is part of the job, but I was still a little sad that I wasn't able to participate in the things that my family arranged. I am happy that I will be able to spend more time with my family this year. I don't know if I am going to work next christmas, so I have to enjoy the free time that I have this christmas

That is nice to hear Procospino! You will get to celebrate Christmas with your family this year! That is what I am hoping for. I wish a falling star will grant my wish ;) Have a nice day!

I can understand you though, I know that being with family and friends those days is very important, those feelings cannot be bought..

Sad that you will have to work on those days, my mother in law always work on holidays because they pay her the double,so we celebrate those days another day, don't worry maybe you can organize something that too. My husband is suppose to take vacation during the holidays but he is going to work it so he can make money.

Well, if not the same boat, the one alongside yours!. Compared with a lot of other people, we are less privileged inasmuch as the number of annual holidays are very limited so we end up being in office on festival holidays while others celebrate. I don't have as much problem working as my expectant family. They always wish we are at home together to celebrate the festival. Can't help these situations. These occupational limitations.

It is truly saddening to be working on such holidays. I for one have already experienced it countless of times. You can look at it the other way around by seeing it as an opportunity for you to earn more. Having more money, you'll be able to make up to your family on the holidays you are gone by spending a little more on gifts that you usually give them. Also, for sure you'll have lesser customers to deal with on those days. Still, I hope that your VLs be granted. Money can't replace the memories you'll be enjoying on Christmas and New Year :)

Thank you Queen! I certainly hope so too that my VL will be granted :) Have a nice day!
