I might be relocating in Singapore few months from now. My biggest question is, how much do I need to earn to be able to live decently in the country? I don't spend much except on occasions. For those who have any idea, please share your thoughts.

I am from Singapore as well. Generally, if you are able to live under your means, you should be able to survive in Singapore. The problem in Singapore is lodging, if you need to rent a room, it would be around $500 to $800 for just one room in an apartment. Earning around $2,000 over would be plausible. Try to save on transport because transport is quite expensive in Singapore. So try to live near where you work. Singapore is a fast pace nation, everybody is busy earning money. I basically write and blog online to earn money. Cheers.

Hi Jaimz, that depends on the provision of your future employer. Some employers provide accommodation, and transport to work. You will definitely earn less than the locals, since all these provisions are very expensive for the employers. If accommodation is not provided for, you may get the allowances or your salary will be more or less same as the locals. If you just rent a small room in outlying estates, that will cost at least $500 per month. If you want master bed room with aircon in places near to train station, you have to pay about $800 per month. This is assuming that no cooking is allowed. The transportation cost is about a hundred dollars or more, depends on the promixity to your working place. For food, a budget of ten dollars per day is enough. In general, the starting salary for foreigners is about $2000, less if you are a graduate with just two years experience. The working hour is quite long, since nobody goes back on time. I doubt you can ask for higher salary, unless you have many years of working experience in different parts of the world.

I am a Singaporean. My opinion is that it depends on what you consider as decent. If you are working to earn $2000 per month and you are single, I think that is okay.

Although this depends on country you are living now, I think you might find that Singapore is abit expensive compared to other Asian country. I remember the last time I went there in 2004 some rice from food court cost around 5 Singapore Dollars per meal with drink.
