well.. generally I restart the system and problem gets solved.. else you have to do disk cleanup, defragmentation, run virus scan and also delete unnecessary startup files..

The first couple of times my computer freezes, I will just restart it. But if it continuously happen again, I will use my anti virus and Malware bytes and check if there are torjans are viruses that causes the errors. I tried that several times, and it usually worked. Malware bytes is the best if you feel like your computer is acting up too much.

Have you considered using a virus scanner? There's a particular Windows virus (I don't recall it's name though) that causes the symptoms you've just listed (e.g. automatic restart) There are free virus scanners out there; I use Avira. But if the computer becomes too bogged down by these errors, I suggest that you just reformat the hard drive and have a clean install of Windows XP.

There can be a lot of things that can cause the things you said above, but if i were you, first i would borrow some good power supply from friends and see if the problem still exist. If not then maybe you should replace the power supply. In the past i also found that temporarly reduce the cpu speed can help eliminate those problem, after a while i raise the cpu speed back to normal.

There are a lot of things we must check to diagnose the problem of hanging, the people who commented here are all correct. Usually system hang up happens if there is a virus that operating to your Operating System. You must have a very good anti virus software that can eliminate the virus so that your system stops from hanging.Sometimes it is not on the system. You must also check your hardware, like the RAM memory.Sometimes having a defective RAM memory makes the system continuously restart and hang. The result of black desktop background usually happens when your RAM memory is defective.Try to clean it using pencil eraser and put it back again to the RAM memory slot and try to boot it up again. If the problem do not fix it, try to consult a computer technician for further diagnostic to ensure that your PC will be fix.Happy Exploring!!!!!!!???

If it has a lot of problems the best thing you can do is to reinstall windows as this will be your first step for learning how to deal with these problems. Then start to read a lot online to see what you can stop running and what you should leave running on your computer to make it work faster. Also download a good registry cleaner like CCleaner or AML registry cleaner and use it at least once every 2 weeks. And don`t forget to defragment your hard drives at least once every 2 weeks if you move a lot of files on your computer.Good luck and i hope you will be able to fix your problems.
