I think seasoning shortcuts like Maggi Magic Sarap and AjiGinisa are one of the best products ever to be developed for the home. It speeds up cooking time without sacrificing taste and flavor. In fact, these seasoning granules can even make some recipes even more delicious! Can't live without these products for sure. Do you use them? For what kinds of cooking do you use seasoning shortcuts?

Not so much as it contain soduim in high level. Moderation is the key in using these seasonings as they contain high soduim. You may not be aware of it but ask a xhemist or a nutritionist and they will tell you the truth, do not ask of course those who's promoting them.

@ edna, Exactly, do not ask those who are promoting the products they will surely defend their products and we are very sure that the owner or manufacturers are not using those products as well It's really harmful and one source of bad health these days.

Ah, the mystery of monosodium glutamate. Actually, it's not as bad for your health as salt is, but heck pop research against it have been so intense that it has gotten a bad rap. But you're correct -- taking things in moderation is a good rule to go by.

I have to agree with you. These seasoning have a lot of MSG and MSG is bad for your health. It is actually the main reason why we use seasonings in moderation and in little amount. I have to admit that they are good to use when you're in a hurry to cook and that they really add flavor to the food. ^_^

They are so popular nowadays. Before the only seasoning we use is Aji Ginisa but now there are Maggi Magic, Knorr seasoning, and Lucky Me Nam Nam. I wonder which of them really is better to use. They really help to enhance the flavor of food. We sell lugaw and it improves the taste every time you sprinkle one of them.

That's interesting: quick-and-fast lugaw! I actually still do the normal gisa before I add on the ginisa mix (does this make sense)? For me Magic Sarap is a lot better than NamNam. Namnam tastes so much like the seasoning for the Lucky Me chicken noodle pack.;p

Thanks I will try that. I discovered that too, because one time our Lucky me noodles was tasteless because of too much water and then I add it to the soup and the taste is nothing but the chicken seasoning for the noodles..

We also use Maggi Magic Sarap and Aji Ginisa to make our dishes more flavorful. I can say that those products are good help with preparation of our foods and it added appetite. However, it might be harmful in our help as those products may cause Urinary Tract Infection and could also affects our Kidney. it's better to minimize using those products.

Yes, I use these too and I am also quite thankful for them since they do speed up cooking and the taste is also better. I use Nam-nam though and the seasonings for mechado and other viands.

I know, right? This seasoning mixes really do help a lot in a pinch (pun intended) especially if we're on a tight schedule.

Yes, but sometimes I do think though what could be the effects of this seasoning mixes to our body or health.Because we know that this mixes do contain some chemicals only the experts knew.Anyway we also knew that FDA will not approve the use of this chemicals if they knew it could do harm to us.

I also thank God that this seasoning was created, before my mother always use Ajinomoto cause there is no other seasoning created. Now, I use Maggi Magic Sarap, can you believe that I hate cooking but thanks to Maggi it helps me make my dishes tasty. Now when I cook I always use Maggi and the outcome was a tasty meal. I use it even on fried egg and fish and in adobo or any other meal, even without condiments.

I use it with fried eggs too, scrambled to perfection with milk and a pinch of pepper. (This is making me hungry, LOL) Ajinomoto was also a staple around the house before but I think perceptions about its bad effects on health (not sure if that's true or not) had made people shift to using seasoning mixes instead.

Before malicious issues on Ajinomoto, we are using it but now that other seasoning has created, it taste better than Umami. Thanks to Maggi, it thought me how to cook right and my bf loves my sinangag.

I also always put some AjiGinisa to my sauteed viands. I would even use it sometimes to season my fried rice. I also found out that NamNam is even more flavorful that Magic Sarap, to add as a seasoning to what i am cooking. For those with soup, like pochero, i like seasoning them with Knorr or Maggi Cubes. It make the soup so tasteful. Though, i only use them in moderation.

I know what you mean! Though I have to admit, at times I use a whole pack on what I'm cooking. It just seems as if I can't get wrong with it. The seasoning mix completes the taste somewhat, even more than what simple salt and pepper could.

I really feel at a loss whenever i am seasoning what i am cooking. As much as possible i would like to avoid using those seasoning, but it seems, those salt and pepper do not really suffice to make the taste fantastic. Sometimes though, a teaspoon of oyster sauce does the trick, but an authentic oyster sauce is costly, so i scrimp on it. So , there's no choice but to use a seasoning.

yes my mom uses them so i guess it is safe. We use vetsin too and my mom said she finds it safe because she herself saw how my grandfather uses it for cooking and that we are all still very safe :) hehe

Vetsin was a staple in the "old days". I still have Nora Daza's cookbook filled with recipes that have this as an ingredient, LOL. Anyway, I think Ajinomoto made their Aji Ginisa to create a "healthier alternative" to vetsin so that's the reason why seasoning mixes like these came about. Not sure though, but I use them and they work.;p

Oh,I am guilty of this too. I do use ginisa mix for instant seasoning and also poisoning our body (hehehe) Yes, it's full of chemicals and harmful ingredients hidden from it's taste (duh) I don't use it everyday. I prefer to use brown sugar/mascuvado to season my menu and recipe.

What recipes do you use muscovado with? I think I tried it with adobo once, tastes okay as I recall.

I dont use them cos of MSG, I use garlic powder and onion powder which is made of the real thing. Those 2 are ingredients of the ginisa mixes. I still use real onions and garlic though, I only use powder when I feel lazy. Another face of mine is sesame oil, sesame oil also provide the Umami taste. My sister is a sucker for them. she hates slicing and chopping garlic, onions and she hates sauteeing them. so yes she uses them religiously. In the US, they use liquid stock as flavoring of dishes.

Although I'm okey with just garlic and salt on my fried rice, I find adding aji ginisa makes it more flavorful. I think if we use it in the right way then we'll be safe. Anyway, it won't pass BFAD if its harmful right?

I think I've got to try Aji Ginisa then. I've only tried Magic Sarap and Namnam before but I've heard good reviews about Aji Ginisa also. Anyway, I think it's safe enough but in moderation, I mean a pack for a viand would be okay but 5 packs would be stretching it. (And I wonder how would that taste, LOL.)

Thank GOD for it! It saves my hungry tummy and it makes food more yummy. I don't know what dishes they use it because I'm the taster not the cook. But I know that my mom and my "manang" uses it. Our cooks also use it. ^_^

I use these but only occasionally, mainly for fried rice or sauteed vegetables. I still prefer using fresh garlic and onions. And while they do take some more time to prepare, in my opinion the dish ends up tasting better. I don't deny that these seasoning shortcuts are useful. I'm sure a lot of families actually use them considering the number of brands that already carry this kind of product. In a sense it is also more economical since you no longer need to buy separate ingredients. Still, I prefer using fresh ingredients.
