To offer advice you need to answer a few more questions. Are you looking for a smaller compact camera,? What type of photos are you trying to take? Are you willing to carry around a camera and extra lenses? My suggestions would be if you are willing to carry around a larger camera then A Canon Rebel would be a good choice. Canon has decent kit lenses that are image stabilized. If you are looking for a camera that is smaller and easier to carry around then I would suggest the Canon G12. It has many of the features and workings of a DSLR. Many reviews call the G12 the closest thing to a DSLR with out interchangeable lenses. Good Luck

Hi I have only just bought a new camera myself! I previously had a Kodak point and shoot type and it has given me great results but have now moved up to something better. I just bought a Nikon D3100 and as soon as I took it out of the box, I could tell it was going to be good. I really like the camera and features and it has an on screen guide to help you with the settings until you get used to them. I would recommend this camera, if you are new to DSLR but want something along the professional lines. However....make sure you shop around and look at somewhere like Amazon. The prices vary a lot for this camera. I am in the UK and paid £400 ($628 US)and this was a good price. I have seen it being sold for £550 ($860 US) If you get it for about $600 then you have done well. Good luck! Robin

Most people nowadays use DSLR. Simply because of better image quality. It's good for people who loves photography. I only know two popular brands. Nikon and Canon arethe best I guess.
