Do you think Middle school prepares kids for High school enough?

I remember when I was in middle school and I was getting easy, easy A's. It was like I didn't even have to try to pass the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. But when I reached high school, it was hard for me to maintain my A's, so I ended up getting A's/B's on my report card. So it had me wondering... Does middle school really challenge kids? Does the teachers really put enough effort or discipline enough? Tell me what you think. :D

Hell, if you ask me, even college doesn't do the job right. None of the kids graduating with degrees are prepared for the workforce and aren't even qualified to do the jobs they studied to do. It's a ridiculous sham. The whole thing.

Well Middle School or as it was called in these parts, Junior High, really did depend on the subject. Of course, much to my horror many times, it didn't prepare us well enough for high school in a few areas, so I had to work hard for some of the moderately decent grades that I had. Granted its been over ten years since I've been in Junior High and then going into High school, so really who knows what had changed. I think that in many ways, depending on the subject and the quality of the teachers, they can really prepare you for a smoother transition. Where it's just a simple step up, rather than a set of stairs with about eight or nine steps missing as you struggle to climb to the top of the stairwell. Of course when the teachers are apathetic about the entire situation, then the rest is downhill.

Well, I think the lesson in middle school and in high school have a different standard. In middle school we just learn about the basic, when we reach High school we are prosecuted to learn it deeper. We are prosecuted to have a mature mind after all.

I never felt challenged at all until I got into college. High school and middle school (or as we call it, junior high) seemed like a day care to me. I do think that it's due to the fact that my mom taught me how to read when I was four and by the time I went into Kindergarten, I was reading chapter books while the other kids were struggling to read picture books. I definitely think that if a teacher sees that a student isn't being challenged enough, they should attempt to give them one. It would have helped me out a lot.

In Australia, there is no such thing as middle school. It's right after elementary school, bam! You're in high school! For me, it was pretty much a big step up and I felt really pressured. At first in elementary school, I never bothered to actually try for school, I didn't really care about my education. I still did well in school though and I loved elementary school. It wasn't until high school that I started to have my grades down. I then realized the seriousness of high school and how assignments and exams have become less fun and more competitive. I felt young in grade 7 but I didn't start getting serious until grade 8. Now I'm in my final year of high school, and it's getting even tougher! I have my major exams next year which will determine my fate of which college I will go to and what career I'll get. It's pretty tough as you're ranked with the whole state, get less than 50%, you wont have any careers to study for in college. Because middle school was combined with high school, I felt it wasn't much of a difference.

I think it does sort of preparing them teaching them how to study and teaching them the basics, High School I think is when things become very serious...

Well, that depends. Not all teachers are bad. I don't think that High School prepares kids for College. I think that parents need to get involved in their kids' education. When I was in middle school, I was horrible at math, the teacher talked to my parents about it, but my parents never forced me to do anything, so by the time I went to high school, I didn't know how to count without a calculator. Later, I was diagnosed with Dyscalculia--a learning disability, you can't add numbers no matter how hard you try.

We didn't have 'middle school' when I went to school We had elementary, Junior high and high school. 7th and 8th grade was junior high... I think it did prepare me for high school, because that is when we started going to different classes. I had to go from room to room and go to different teachers' classes. My teachers weren't very easy on us.. we had lots of homework... so going into the 9th grade was fairly easy since I had had junior high. I was a good science student but I was poor in history and math. I was good in English. I don't know about nowadays. My daughter had trouble in school like I did. My daughter quit high school when she was 16... I thought she would do the GED when she was ready but she never passed it.. she went but never finished. She never got the education in the lower grades to build on.. so everything was too hard for her.

Over here the do, but I do notice that generally speaking the level of education is getting worser instead of increasing. I wonder why since they also say that kids are getting smarter/more intelligent. Fact is that they know way less, even not common things like sayings, grammar etc anymore. Also the level of high schools is increasing and if it comes to learning/studying things you really need in real life it's a big disaster and waste of money.
