I said goodbye today, to an old friend of sorts.

Being towed out of the driveway, one last time. - Saying goodbye is hard to do, but it had to be done.

It was going to happen sooner or later. It was just a matter of time. The old girl had bitten the bullet, driven her last ride last week. She was towed home, in a sorry state, never to leave the driveway on her own free will again. She brought me through almost 4 years of driving, almost 100,000KM. She saw herself get new parts constantly, but didn't know she was costing so much money to me. She caused problems over the years, but kept on moving. She hauled people and work stuff, mostly without complaint, unless something was wrong with her. She went on 3 long trips, suffered through one accident from one of them, but still got us home in one piece. She has patiently transported pets, and has assisted in several moves. She was dinged, scratched, scraped and dented, but still was a workhorse. She suffered through a tree branch falling on her, and being backed into a pole. She put up with 2 shopping carts hitting her in the exact same spot. She went through a lot over the years, rusting away quietly, rust eating through her frame and causing unsightly views. But she did well. Even when she broke down and had to be towed to a garage, she did not protest. She knew she had to continue on, to serve me and keep me safe in all my travels. Today I said goodbye to a friend. She may not have been the most reliable friend, but she always knew how to work well. It will be hard not to think about her, I hope she doesn't feel like I abandoned her. But I had no choice. After failing me once again, I just couldn't help her get better. There was no point. Today I said goodbye to my van. I didn't think I would miss her, but I already am. The oil stain in the driveway is all that remains out there to remind me of her. But I have pictures and memories as well, and the key! That I'll never give up. Goodbye my friend, you will be missed. Especially your bumper stickers.

I think I know how it feels. I also suffered when I had to take my old car to the junkyard. I had to take her there because the government gave us a green card for it and it valued almost 20% of the price of my new car. I couldn't use it any more, she started to cause me troubles. But she was good for me as I learned how to drive with it. Have you already found a new van?

I'm looking at possibly getting a truck maybe next week. Not sure what's going to happen though.

You'll probably fall in love with the new truck they way you did with your previous van. I hope the new truck won't make you too many problems. Will you buy a new truck?

Hi kris, So that's the baby that's been causing you all the problems in your previous discussions, yeah sorry but it's time to go, just think on the positive, it's gonna open up opportunity for you as you said to buy another vehicle that would suit you best, I think you could concentrate better now on pulling your resources less the costly repairs and headaches she gives you.R.I.P. Good luck my friend

Wow, that is sad. I haven't had that happen to me before, but I can imagine. I did have a car for a while that gave me problems, but I finally sold it last year right before I left for China. I hope that you are able to find something else soon! Have a great weekend!!!

I got scared too! I thought that you lost your husband or a relative. Thanks God this is not the case. I'm surprised to see a woman showing such feelings for a vehicle. Usually men love their car more that their wives. I'm sorry about your loss. But you should be glad too because you have tonns of memories. And I wish you to get a pretty new van and begin to amass new memories.

You scared me. I thought you lost a relative, thanks God not. But yes is difficult say bye to the vehicle that we have share a lot of experiences, but if it is for better,is great step so. My father is like that he give names to his cars and take care of them like if they were babies,he says that he prefer to borrow his wife than the car, because in the case of the wife he knows what is the part that is going to get damage, but in the case of the car he won't know until the car stop moving, and get broken. He is so funny, and of course he says that like a joke!

My van was my livelihood to be honest. I went everywhere in it. It took me on 3 road trips, all with my husband, and moved us and others several times. It's done a lot for me, but has had major issues as well. But there are memories and I hold on to them. And I hope to make new memories with a new vehicle soon. I'm looking at getting my wish of buying a truck, I'm in conversation with someone about theirs, and can't wait until I have enough money to buy it.

It's funny how we become attach to things we own, comfortable even. I'm sure that your van served you for as long as she could, but the old gal just couldn't do it any longer. You will have your memories and you get to look forward to buying a new/used car now. I'm sure you will grow to love that one too.

hi kris how sad. She sounds like she has served you well when she was not ill. now the end has c ome, the final curtain, but you will miss her, that is certain. She must have known she was going, lol,and sure she did it her way and she worked hard if not always reliably. You will miss her unless you stop at the used parts place. So you still have the key and you can truthfully say she did it all her way;lol oh gosh you should have taken the bumper stickers but again best to let her go to eternity wearing all her stickers valiantly lol

I was so heart broken... really... I thought you're talking about a friend, a human. You have written it well. I was ready to burst into tears. Thank goodness it was just a van.
