I been knitting for quite a few years now, and I just absolutely fell in love with the loom. I have a sock loom and a set of round knitting looms (4 in a set). I hope to purchase a set of straight knitting looms next month. It's just so much fun, and is easier than the conventional needles, but I still like the conventional needles, though. But variety is just lovely. I knitted my son a tube scarf with it, and am going to knit some house sock slippers for the kids for Christmas. Here's a pic of me knitting my son's scarf on the smallest loom of the round knitting loom set.

I have the looms, but do not use them, so far. I have one project I have nearly finished. A friend on here told me she uses plarn and makes bags and things on the looms. I have only crocheted with plarn.

Oh loom knitting is probably just like crocheting because you use a hook with the yarn, along with the loom. What's a plam?

Plarn is when you cut your recycled plastic bags into strips and you can crochet or knit with it. It is not stretchy, but it makes nice bags and rugs etc. Small circles or squares make coasters. Many years ago my first mother in law made "bread wrapper rugs" and it is the same thing. I just do not sit still and do crochet or loom knitting like I should. I have an abundance of yarns and could make some great things. I want to learn hairpin lace (a loom crochet technique) and broomstick lace, where you use a dowel rod, or a broom stick or an oversized "knitting needle" to form your crochet around.

It nice to hear that you found a hobby that you can enjoy, personally knitting has never been my type of thing. My mom attemted to teach me when I was about 15 years old. I saw her knitting a comforter for her so I decided that would be fun to do. I attempted it at first it was exciting and I wanted to do it all the time, but after a while I started getting fraustrated and just ended up laving it alone. I don't have the patience for it. I am sure that your son will love it especially now for the cold.

I love the variety of different kinds of knitting and all kinds of stitches, that's what keeps knitting so exciting for me :-)

I am glad to hear that you like it, I love the concept of it and all the beautiful things you can make with it, but I don't have the patience for it, it's a shame because my mom and grandmother made me beautiful things when I was smaller.

I haven't done that in years, but I would like to teach my little sister how to do the loom something simple and easy so she won't get discouraged so easily. I stick to mostly crocheting now. But wouldn't mind doing a little looming to make a scarf or hat. my mom started me out on spools that thread came on for practice.

I think that is great Masihi. It's wonderful to pass our gifts on to our kids and it teaches them culture and to be able to relax, focus and create art.

I loved your loom, Masihi. It reminded me of a very small loom we made with nails when I was little. We made rugs with them and used bits of leftover wooland held competitions at school over who knitted more at recess. With tohse looms you can use all sorts of wool, even leftovers to the last small thread.

Ah, yes, the spool knitter, my 1st foster mother used to have the homemade nail ones when she was a kid, and one Christmas she gave me a spool knitting kit and I loved it immensely. It had 4 pegs on them. Now I've ordered 3 spool knitters from Ebay, one for each kid and one for myself, and it has six pegs. I know they'll love it. The one you see in the picture is a 24-peg loom.

Yeah! That´s the one!(The one your foster mother had). I don´t know if we have the loom in the picture in my country, but I could get it at Ebay. Unfortunatly I don´t have much money now as even I have had to use my vacation money for the extras of my chemo treatment and this month I have earned little with my being about a week at the hospital.

I love using the knitting looms too. And you will love all of them. The round ones are a lot of fun as well. I haven't gotten a sock loom but I want to. I just can't knit socks. I have tried many times.

I got my sock loom from Crafty Lady on Ebay, she ships internationally, and altogether it only cost me $36 including shipping. I got the really good kind by Knitting Board, and it's pure hard wood, and came with a DVD. If you ordered it from the knitting board's official website you'll probably pay like fifty bucks with their tax and shipping included, as it's $37 retail price on that site. I hope Crafty Lady has some left in her ebay store. If you have trouble looking her up I'll send you a link to your inbox.

I have never tried loom knitting, but it looks like it would be fun. I knit a lot with needles but my hands get tired. I wonder if using a loom would help that - sort of give one set of muscles a break.
