How long can you live without your cell phone?

Cell phones - How important are cell phones in our lives?

I am taking my cell phone everywhere with me and I have made it an important part of my everyday life. Except from the calls etc, I have my organizer there, the important dates, notes, birthdays, I even set the alarm to wake up in the morning! I can't remeber when was the last time that I went somewhere without it and if I forget it at home I always come back to get it. Even if I am late for work. It is such a tiny product and I feel so dependent on it! I imagine that if one day I don't take it with me I will not be able to do anything. How important is your cell phone in your everyday life, do you use it that much that you wouldn't go anywhere without it?

I made it a very important aspect of my life mainly because I constantly listen to music on it, not so much for messaging and calling, except for when I'm going out or have to go somewhere so I can contact my friends and set up a meeting. It just helps me through my boredom a lot of times and I enjoy listening to music so that's why it's a big part of my life. But maybe I would even succeed in not having cell phone, I don't know, never tried it before.

I used to listen to music too, in my old cell phone! Now with the smartphones the battery needs charging every day if I have music on so I avoid it. It's a shame because I like it a lot :)

My smartphone lasts for almost 3 days if I just use it for calls and around 1 day if I go online, play games and listen to music. My friend just got a motorolla smartphone and she needs to charge it every 6 hrs without using the internet etc. She needs to have a charger in her bag, it's crazy! When it comes to the battery life i miss my old phone, I don't remember how many days it lasted because they were a lot, maybe 4-5 days.

I have older phone so it's not a smartphone and with all listening to music it's battery lasts at least two days, sometimes even a few days, so those older phones aren't that bad at all. I heard those new iPhone 4S batteries last only for a day without doing anything, listening to music or something like that. It's just that those processors for these new phones are so powerfull, and batteries are just too weak.

Well thezone... I don't know about being evil, but I do think that they can cause to many problems for people because they use the phone when they should be doing something else...like driving! I was in a store the other day, a fabric store and looking at fabric and this lady says "well, do you think these colors go together?" I thought she was talking to me so I responded..."yeah, those look great". She says something else, I respond and notice she is looking at me really funny like. Well, a few more responses and it turns out she had a bluetooth in her ear...she wasn't talking to me, but to a friend on the phone! i was so embarresed! The next time I went to that same store...I was looking at some fabric and a lady comes next to me and she asks..."do you think these are 70's colors?" I again, respond... and after a few...she tells me "oh, I'm talking to my daughter. I am making this for her daughter so I was just telling her about the colors". Again, totally embarresed! Third time I go to that same store...a lady comes to my side and asks that same question...i look at her and say" are you talking to me or do you have a bluetooth?" She looks at me like I am being rude and says, "no, I was asking your opinion as matching colors is hard for me". I explained to her why I asked her that and she bust up laughing and saying that has happened to her before, no don't feel bad, no problem etc. We chatted about the fabric and I helped her come to a decision! So cell phones also cause alot of embarresment and miscommunication!

Hehe, that's a funny story coffeebreak! I never had an experience like this, but sometimes when I get a taxi for a long ride I tend to talk on the phone as I am in the taxi and meny times the driver is confused thinking that I am talking to him. So now I just talk on the phone with my handsfree and I have the microphone visible in front of my mouth when I am in a taxi :)) Those stories are quite funny though and i enjoy them!

I never thought I could. But in the last year I barely use my phone. And I finally have very nice phone. I always thought I was addicted and my phone always came with me everywhere but now I leave it at home or in my purse or leave the room w/out it. I just don't use it like I did. I would die w/out the internet more then my phone.

Hmmm.. I don't know if I could choose between internet and my phone, I need both! I guess internet can replace the phone in some ways for example with skype etc (in terms of calling). But you can't have internet everywhere unless it's in your mobile! Dilemma..

Sandee - I think alot of people would be surprised that life can go on without a cell surgically attached to their hands! I have one only cause my daughter wanted me to have it for emergency cause I was daycaring her daughter and picking her up from school and all. But I dont' use it for anything but that. I don't pick her up anymore, but only take it when I leave the house and the only reason for that is for emergency since there are any pay phones around anymore...thanks to the cell phone! But if I need tow or something, I can call. We got along just fine last decade without them...I think cell phones are far far far FAR to much out of control! When was the last time you saw someone WITHOUT a cell in their hands!!!LOL!!!

You are right on that one besweet! My GD got her first cell at age 9! I mean come on!! But really, her mom got it for her cause due to divorce, she was at daddys one week, mommys the next and daddy kept "forgetting" to pay the land line so there was no way to contact the child! So mom got her the cell to use between them and me and a few friends. Butnow.. age 11 she has a "smart phone" or is it an Iphone...I am not up on all that, but she plays games on it, texts, calls, and has the internet option, but I dont' think mom has included that in her plan as she doesn't want her online without supervision. But cell phones and ones life being on that little gadget is the wave of the future so I guess it is good that she learn how to use them...like computers, they are here to stay...possibly even replacing computers for many! That is scary!!!

Haha :) If you make me choose, I will say food! In a survival case I might trade my phone for food :P I remember that I grew up with out a cell phone, they were rare then and in the size of landline phones! I bought my first when I was 16 I think but I wasn't using it because only a few people had one. Since then, it has been part of my life for many years and if you get a habit of using something so much then it needs a lot of effort to change your habits. I like my cell phone though and they have become "mini computers" now so I keep everything in there so I wouldn'i want to change that! Nowadays kids grow up with cell phones from so young and I believe it must be even more difficult for them to live without a phone!

Cell phone has become very important aspect of everybody's day today life. I personally don't go anywhere without taking my mobile. The communication has become so easy with the cellphones may be its a call or sms or social networking. We can remain connected with everybody all the time with this tiny device.

True, I carry it with me all the time and all of my friends do the same. Yesterday I was out with my friends and one of them is really obsessed with her cell phone. She is sending messages to her boyfriend all the time so we took her cell phone for 10 minutes because she was constantly checking it, waiting for a response! It was funny how she reacted, she was anxious that she would have a message and she wouldn't see it immediately and she was checking the time waiting for the 10 minutes to pass! I like my phone too! But when I am with my friends I leave it inside my bag and have fun. Maybe I will check it every hour to see if I have any texts and that's it!

Same thing with me i always bring my cellphone with me anywhere i go even sleeping or just simply buying at the store. I didnt have much inside in it but it's my instinct to bring it coz i feel lacking without this thing in my body or bag. Anywhere i go as i said i bring it this is how important cp to me. Especially if i expect somebody to call like my family sisters from far country and friends. One time this thing is served as our communication device of my chatmate friend that is why this device makes important to me.

What makes it so necessary is that without it I wouldn't have any other alarms to set! So I would probably oversleep, be late for my job etc.. We have invested so many things on the cell that if we should live without having one, we sould search for alternatives!

To be honest, I can live without my phone because I hate answerig phone calls. I use my phone most of the time for just calling my parents who are far away from me and for the other time, I usually contact my friends through other ways such as facebook, email, or even simplier in personal contact as I almost see them every day. Therefore, while most of the people around me are using their iPhone or blackberry, I am still using my nokia simply because I do not need them and nokia is usually physically stronger than an iPhone because I am about 90 percent certain your iPhone will break if you drop it onto the floor while a nokia cellphone will not.

Haha, that is correct about the durability of the new phones. The more functions they have, the more problems you might get. Personally, I have an iphone just because I need to check my e-mails all the time due to work but it's very cheap and easy to get a new phone nowadays that people just change them every year or less. My old phone is 5 years old and it is still working perfectly (I am using it sometimes as well). It has fell down several times and nothing happened to it. My new phone is only 5 months old and it closes by itself sometimes, and I have to say that I have never dropped it!

It is not the cell phone that so important to me but the list of people's number I can contact with. My father call me five times in a month, and he would be very angry If I didn't answer his call. My boss also used to call me by cell phone, so it is important to have my cell phone with me as always. I can communicate with other people with my cell phone even if I only use it when I really needs to call or text someone out there. Now, I am having a laptop with dial-up internet connection and it is also important for me as well, since I have to sign me in myLot to improve my writing skill and money as well. Thank You

I undestant what you say. The amount of numbers that we store in our cells is crazy. And personally, I haven't stored those numbers anywhere else so my cell is the only way I can communicate with my friends and people that I know! Thanks for the response, have a great day! :)

I use my cell phone everyday,to do what? To listen Pandora music. To take pictures. To make videos. To go to Facebook. To upload pitures to mylot. To respond discussions in mylot. To make me wake up at 5:45 am. To check my hotmail. To send text mes. When I am lost in the street to use the GPS. To find a better prize when I am shopping. To see the time, weather, and date. To make money entering to my pct sites. And sometimes to make phone calls, because my phone can be days without ringing, because I don't have a lot of friends, only my husband and son.

When I am outside I find GPS and time/date the most important features of the phone! GPS helps me to always find my way and I never carry a watch so mny phone tells me the time, if I forget it I lose the sense of time and I hate asking people in the street! Thank you for your comment Rosa!

I can't live without my cell phone. I take it everywhere with me. I use it a lot, expecially that it has many many features. However, on hollidays, when I live town, I prefer to turn it off and just enjoy some time disconnected from anything that happens in the town.

In holidays, it is sometimes annoying when people in the bach just can't stop talking on the phone. It is stressful and we are there to have fun and relax! I still take it with me to keep in touch with my family but I never ever take it with me to the beach!

Spending 10 dollars/year in my cell sounds like a dream! That is very good for you, I think that in order to keep the number you need to renew with the minimun amount at least once a year or else it will be deleted. Spam sms are annoying indeed! Thanks for your comment!

It is part of our life though, it is usually required from many jobs to own a cell phone and at the end of the day I don't know if it is your choice. I will tell you for example that my parents bought a cell phone when they were 55 (not many years ago). They were "forced" to learn how to use it because they always needed to call me on my call phone or others. Calling from landlines to mobiles costs a fortune so they decided to buy a cell, do a family program and get free minutes to others which is significantly cheaper. Having a mobile wasn't necessary for them but everything works in a way that you can't live without one.

My cellphone is one of the most important items in my life. This is my only means of communicating with my loved one, family, friends and even my boss. It serves as my clock, my diary, my reminder and my form of recreation whenever I get bored waiting for the traffic to move. My cell phone contains messages that I haven't deleted in a very long time. These are the special messages and photographs when my love relationship was still starting. It has come to be so precious because it serves as a memory of a love that was so wonderful. I have grown so dependent on the cellphone that it has become a part of me, something that became so precious and dependable.

My phone is full of memories as well. This tiny device has so many photos from different times in my life and I feel nostalgic sometimes when I look through them. However I regularly trnsfer everything in my computer to be safe. My phonebook is not saved anywhere else though and I will lose everything if something happens to my phone. By the way, I have noticed that before cell phones come in my life, I used to remember many phone numbers, birthdays etc. Now that I have everything with me when I need it I don't remember anything, I have to check first!
28 Nov 11
i love using my celphones and in fact i have noticed just recently that iam getting more and more addicted to it. even if i dont have anytone to call or test to iam frequently holding it or just simply staring at it which i believe is really funny and sometimes is weird. and according to the question how long can you live without your celphone i think i depends on how long gadgets like these could stay existing around, which iam so sure that gadgets like that including celphones will really last very very long so my answer is if a person is "world-centered", maybe he would last for a few years so unhappily. but since iam not that type of person, i would say that i can still last as much as GOD would allow me to live. with or without celphones.
