why do we initially think of buying or eating a popcorn when watching a movie?

while I was thinking of watching a movie today, i suddenly thought of buying a popcorn, since I was going to watch a movie...but then, a question was formed in my head. WHY POPCORN? I mean why is it that when we want to watch a movie, like for example we go the theatre to watch a movie but before going inside, we always for some reason, visit the food station to order a nice bucket full of popcorn, what flavor you like is entirely up to your taste. so anyway, why do we buy popcorn or bring popcorn when watching a movie? what is there in popcorns that makes it a classic choice of food to bring during watching films? can you give me an idea about this?

Hello Dear Midnightsky! Warm Welcome to Mylot! This is an interesting discussion! I think while watching a movie we are in a relaxed mood and want to spend our time as best way as we can! While sitting for so long I think to satiate our belly is the only thing that we can do to achieve this feeling of enjoyment! Now if we go in or some bulky things, we may end up with sleep after having it which we never want to happen as we have paid for the tickets to enjoy the movie. And more over while having anything bulky we have to be careful that our clothes are not getting spoiled f they accidentally fall while having them in the theatre. So I think popcorn is the best solution to have. The reasons I have found are as follows: 1. Popcorn, we get a large volume to consume at an affordable price. 2. We get them in convenient packing. 3. This is bulky but light in weight so there is no problem of carrying and keeping on our lap while enjoying the movie. 4. There won't be any stains if accidentally a couple of hem are spilled on our clothes. 5. We have independent units of popcorn which makes us easy to have them without making any pieces! 6. We can simply use our hands, that is no need to use spoons or forks to have them. 7. Pop corn lasts quite long while watching the movie. 8. It's having its own taste which never makes on satisfied even having a full bucket. 9,It is not heavy on our stomach , so we don't get sleep after having this. 10. This can be easily shared with our near and dear ones! These are my observation! I think you will agree with me! What do you say about it? Thanks I liked participating in the discussion!

I think it depends on our preferences and how we watched movies when we were younger (perhaps our parents influenced us when we were younger). However, this doesn't hold true for us. My family, siblings, and I don't really eat popcorn with movies. In fact, we don't like to eat while watching movies. Instead, we do eat prior to watching or after watching the film. I just can't appreciate the movie when my mouth is doing something else. Perhaps it's different per person. All in all, I guess it's how our parents or elders influenced us when we were younger. Those influences has grown with us but we haven't outgrown it as we influence other people (or our kids) now that we're older. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

i usually buys Popcorn for two reasons.. one ..if i have chicks with me.. i will one for two of us to share..or buy two for each of us to eat together..more romantic..lol.. or the other reason is because i need to munch something while watching a movie..perhaps just dont wanna feel little hungry while in the cinema halls... but if im totally full..i noramlly wouldnt buy any thing..probably just a soda.

My friends and I always have popcorn and I don't know why. Habit, I guess. Well, maybe here's a reason. One time we went in with Burgers and Fries. I squirted ketchup on my friend's bag and had some relish on my blouse. From that time, it's been just popcorn.

I never do think of popcorn, I go for lollies or chocolate, but the last time I went to the movies I couldn't believe the size of the buckets of popxorn the kids had, not wonder we have a problem with overweight kids, these buckets were huge.

I don't have a profound answer for that, for now. but I guess popcorn is a good companion for one and half hour or more, `cause it takes quite some time to finish it and it is not fattening and noisy as seeds (of sunflower or watermelon that in my country are very popular to eat at home). you made me a zest for popcorn now :)
