Many people here sing Christmas songs out of tune and some without proper instruments.. They just sing them just to get it over with and ask money afterwards. Where were the times when people took Christmas carols seriously and sang with all their heart, and not just for the purpose of money alone?

Christmas caroling of today is totally different from the time when I was a kid. Before, we have instruments and we sang the Christmas songs well. Today, people don't take singing Christmas carols seriously. That's why I don't give big money on them. I think one peso is enough. I don't see their effort. I am a little disappointed with their performance.

i noticed. yeah, that's terrible. the whole idea of doing Christmas caroling is gone, people are just after the money. they keep coming back too, singing the same songs, asking for money again. i want to have the old times version of caroling, where they put more effort and talent in.

I do not know the scenario you are talking about. I have gone caroling a number of times and we never asked for money. As a matter of fact, the carollers someitmes left a plate of cookies. Asking for money, even for a good cause, cheapens the whole experience.

I think we may say that especially for the younger children. Maybe they want some extra change to add on their savings and bought gifts for themselves or for their parents. Yeah, there are some adults too who sing Christmas songs even without musical instruments, sometimes out of tune but I guess they are just asking for small amount or little help. When I was in my HS days me and my classmate usually do this too, but before we go house to house we told the owner of the house first.

There are many people like that in my country. Even so, there are still some that do Christmas caroling because they want to spread the Christmas spirit. There are even some people here who pretends to be missionaries and they give out small envelopes where to can put your donations. They even sometimes use small children to acquire money from citizens.

I think that Christmas caroling are just to make money. Here in my city Santa comes to my houses with chocolates and we have to pay about 20rs for him. I think this creates a large profit for them and Christmas caroling is practiced in every Christmas seasons

The whole point of Carols,IMO,is to get yourself and others into the seasonal spirit, and be uplifting for those listening..If it looks like they're only there for the money and not even putting some heart into it,there's nothing making you stand there to listen and feeling obliged to contribute when they stop..keep going on your way!

I think that a lot of people go round houses and sing to people during the course of the festive period for money, but I don't think that there's anything wrong with this at all. In this economic climate, everybody is trying to do whatever they can in order to be able to save or make a little bit of extra money, and I have found that I can make around £50 in one evening when I go out carol singing. However, I don't do it for money for myself, I go out singing to raise money for a charity that I am involved in, so I think that going out round the houses for this reason can be very good indeed.

I remember one year I had gone caroling with a group of ladies and we told people up front that we were singing to raise emoney for a local orphangage so they could have a Merry Christmas. I feel if the people are raising money for charity and the charity is real then it is a good thing. I feel it is wrong to expect money for singing and to sing just because of the reward (in this case money). I wish people would sing because they enjoy it and want to brighten someone's holiday.

People who celebrate christmas here do not have such practice. I haven't seen them doing that and mostly they just use songs from tape. I haven't seen a group of people sine a carol songs here. If money really involved here?? I did not know they asked for money to sing either from door to door or like what I have seen in movies ..(^^)

Maybe we can see less numbers of these carolers that sings good and interesting to watch because lots of carolers now just sing in front of houses to get some money or gift even they sing bad or out of tune. Maybe now I'm just seeing those cute kids that really makes a good and interesting caroling song even they mispronounce other words you can still see in them that they enjoy what they are doing that makes you give more to them. But for teenagers that uses christmas to make money I usually give them smaller amounts cause you can really see that they doesn't make the effort to have a better Christmas carol.

What money? I never heard of Carolers being paid for entertaining us. They are all unprofessional volunteers who walk around in the freezing weather to bring a little joy to our hearts. Maybe some packets of hot chocolate, or some cookies would be nice. But they are not doing this for the money.

I can say that even it is not yet Christmas season, there are people who goes into caroling. You can not feel their sincerity in singing. After 1 verse they already asked money. They don't even leave if you will not give them. Thus I can say they are doing it just for the sake of money.

I don't think they should really be doing that. Maybe you could say something to them in a very nice way in conversation, it is nice to have discussion sometimes with people. I've actually been a recipient of caroling once in my life when I was alone and feeling very left out of any joyous conditions and strangers brought Christmas into my heart. There should be no money involved whatsoever in my opinion. It should be something that friends just do or it not true to carol.

We don't have Christmas carolling here in Australia but it would be nice but I didn't realize there was money involved, I thought they did it for Christmas spirit, that is sad if they are asking for money, I don't see them doing that in the movies...

It has been that way since I was a kid, and that was a long time ago :) Well, in the Philippines, that is. Carolers sing in exchange for some money. But you're right, nowadays, they don't take caroling seriously. Unlike before that the songs were very good. Groups prepared before they do their caroling. Some even inform you beforehand by on the day they're going to your house and sing Christmas songs.
