Well, I know why I try to stay away from them sometimes because U.S. Politics can always become a heated topic. I have gotten into some terrible arguments on the discussion boards because my views clashed with several others, but if it is one thing that I learned when it comes to politics, always have your facts straight, and always back them up. My friends, yes, I call them my friends now, taught me that hard way how to argue and discuss topics on here, and I thank them for it. They told me that if I say anything about a political topic, find websites, books, or actual debates that prove the point that I am attempting to make, and if I can't do that, then I need to stay out of the argument because I will get burned. Politics are always, ALWAYS, a hot topic, right next to religion and religious beliefs. They can both cause a lot of problems and friction on the discussion boards. You find out who people really are and what kind of people they are through political and religious topics.

Yes, I will try to stay out of it if I feel that it is going to get heated, or if I get into a heated argument, then I will try to get out of it as gracefully as I can. People on here can get really nasty in some of the discussions, but you just have to be vigilant and what your steps as much as you can.

Politics is a subject of hot discussion in almost countries. Issue of politics of one nation needn't be an interested matter for a person of another country. Participants of mylot discussion come from various countries. This may one reason for the lack of any nation's political issues aren't brought for discussion here. Most of mylotees love discussions participated by mylotees of various countries, giving mylotee discussion platform as an international stage.

I think this is definitely a big factor. There are just so many countries' represented here at myLot, and most people aren't especially aware of other countries' politics unless it somehow directly affects their own welfare. For example, I would generalize and say that most Americans on myLot have no clue about Filipino politics. This may also be true in the reverse, but perhaps less so since American politics influence the Philippines more than the other way around. Also, I think politics have a way of bringing out the worst in people - and the anonymity of the internet makes it that much worse. Maybe people used to post about politics and then found it as a mistake.

Well, politics always are sensitive topics. There are so many stories about people are persecuted because of their "wrong words" on politic issues. I think it is better to play safe here. Anyway, we are here just want to relax and don't want to bring trouble to us.

It is a hot button issue. I have found that when talking about political issues people really are game to give their view. But they are not as willing to hear yours. I think it's a real shame. It is one of the topics we could learn a lot from one another on.

There are two topics I read about here but seldom answer: politics and religion. I have seen too many fanatics and they will try to hurt whoever doesn´t think as they do. I remember the fisrt time I read a post about religion here. The one who wrote it claimed that everyone who did not believe in what she did, would go to hell. I was a newbie then and didn´t know I could report the post. With politics is the same. And besides, the only politics we have here is internal politics of the US. Not many people even know who is governing other countries. So I stick to other interests I have. But I will read posts about politics, even when I don´t answer them.

But politics has the same problem. I have seen here republicans and democrats from the US fight bitterly about what I´´d call trivia. And from the outside (I´m not a US citizen) both parties in the US are very similar. In my country we have from the extreme right to the extreme left and there are many groups (smaller or bigger). And in religion, even christians have different ways to understand the Bible, depending on how their priests explain it.

Discussing politics can lead to various disagrements. That is probably why that topic is avoided by most people on here. Also, we all come from different countries and the politics are different.

I love talking about politics as well as religion. I say talking, not arguing. But both politics and religion are very controversial. It can get hot and heavy talking about these subjects so i think that mylotters avoid it. I follow current events and I have posted some topics about scandals and other controversial topics occurring in The United States. I get very few responses.

about Philippine Politics, maybe people now realizes that whoever wins and sit on the respective chairs (voted by the people) will still be the same like the past politicians, they are all the same attitudes with a different styles and systems... as people may take advantages whenever they are into power.

i think its about the PEOPLE and not the SYSTEM because we people now are getting smarter, to correct any past possible errors, and a lot of constitutions are already present in the hearings.... no matter what numbers of laws and constitutions are being implemented but if the leaders are the one who first committed a corruption, so the low classes of people will also follow....

I love to talk about politics. I even like to debate, which many people do not like debating because it is very similar to arguing. I think mylotters stay away from politics because there are many different political opinions. People are afraid that if other mylotters disagree with them that they will give them a bad rating. I am okay with talking about politics on here. I also go on other websites and debate politics too.

I like to discuss various issues such as abortion, terrorism, taxes, the deficit, who I am voting for, and topics like those. I enjoy chatting with those I agree with, as well as those I disagree with. Sometimes, even if I don't agree with a person, I can still learn from what they post, and I can understand why they believe what they believe.

It's not because politics is boring but because the opinions are way too different if it comes to politics. Also I learned there are two subjects hard to discuss about (well actually there are three): 1. politics, 2. religion (3. human + female rights). These subjects always seem to end up in never ending discussions about wrong or right and fights. So it's better not to discuss politics because what we believe in is personal and also for a big part the way we are raised and includes to some of us also a part of fear (depending on where you live, what government you have etc). How we all look upon the world situation is a personal view too. There is no wrong or right if it comes to that. Just being different and what is a wrong government in my eyes (and would not work over here) can be a good/great government in an other country just because the people over there/their situation is different.

I'd rather not talk about politics during my fun time to be honest with you. There are times where I might stumble into a political discussion and perhaps I'll respond, perhaps I will not. However, when talking about politics, you kind of have to be political and very careful what you say on the Internet, because political discussions(and religious for that matter), tend to turn very nasty. In the end, I'd rather not think about politics or the horrific situation in the world any more than I have to. And I still think that I think and talk about it a little more than I should the little times that I do. Talking about politics is a rather dangerous business but I do it. Mostly on my blog, but even then it is rare but its not uncommon for me to just pop in from time to time. Its something that I will never like to do however.

Agree with you, talking politics during fun or spare time make me feeling more confuse. So it is better not to talk politics here. Some chit-chat may be yes, but not necessary to talk it deep. Unless we want to share condition, like what happen in other country compared to my country. But that is all, for broaden horizon only, and look using other point of view.

I think it's plain common sense. Participants here come from different nations. Since they don't know from what countries are they, political discussions may not be appreciated by others as these are not their concern or relevant. The chances of soliciting/eliciting various comments may be slim, if not nil. Another reason could be because politics may not be the cup of tea for most of the participants here.
