I was on the bus the other day coming home from work and this lady gets on the bus sits down and gets back up asking the driver to turn on the air cause she's Diabetic, I don't know much about Diabetics but I do know that it's winter time and no one on the bus wanted air conditioning. Luckily the driver told her there was no air cause they switched over to heat already { True or not I don't know}. I wanted to tell her to take her jacket off but i figured I just keep quiet. Then she asked people if they had any candy cause she needed sugar NOW. People were digging looking for any kind of candy to give to her while you could see the sweat forming on her forehead. If you knew you're Diabetic why don't you put some sugar in your purse and if you're hot then take of some clothe. You think it's right to have 30 people freeze only cause she's a Diabetic and she's hot? No offense.....

No I agree with you. That is a public bus which means it serves the public not just one person. As for her not having any candy in her purse that I can see happening. My Mom was a diabetic & for the most part she always kept some type of candy in her purse, but there were times when she would run out & forget to put more in there until she needed to take one.

hi Missybear I am diabetic for 6 years now and even I sometimes forget my "emergency stuff" sooooo now I switched to Liquid Sugar which I have in the bag on my wy to work. Liquid sugar right on the desk at work and in the hotel room aka asylum so I am well prepared for emergencies like this.

That's great cause you never know when something happens to it's good to always be prepared when you have a serious illness.

Got to admit I found your discussion a bit unlike you in general and a bit annoying too cause you dont seem to know that diabetics can get in to hypoglicemias, and sometimes it happens so quick that you cant do much about it any more. The passenger didnt do that to annoy anyone but needed help and that quickly. I once had this on the long train ride home. Well one moment and next moment sort of nauseous and restless thats my typical symptoms. May differ with others. As I didnt have any emergency stuff and felt mini blackouts I asked the train staff for help. They called out for a doctor on the train, embarrassing, and thank God there was one and they had a glucometer on board and could check on me. They even wanted me to go to hospital next stop and would have called an ambulance to the station to get me there but that was my home stop and I convinced them my husband gets me from the station by car and we will monitor my condition when I am home.

Where's her glucos tablets? Every diabetic should have them on hand. No it's not right for her to ask to freeze everyone out. Especially since she'd have been hot no matter what.

The poor lady...but she is very silly too...it's as if she won't take responsibility for her condition and tries to make others responsible...in this case, those bus passengers who did not have candy and the bus company for not letting her cool off. I'm not sure what the sweating was to do with Diabetes though. Surely a responsible Diabetic is prepared for any kind of situation they might find themselves in, in relationship to their condition??

Maybe it wasn't diabetes, maybe she is in the change of life. I know I sweat easily because of the change of life. You are lucky she did not pass out on all of you. She was in need of help if she was asking for candy. Maybe she had used up her last candy and had not been able to restock. I never heard of a diabetic asking for someone to put on the air because they were too hot. My Mom was diabetic and she never said anything about the heat. I don't feel it was right of her to ask the bus driver to turn on the air conditioning. I am sure the bus still had air conditioning, they really don't switch things over on a bus. He just knew that there was no need for the air conditioning to be on. It takes all kind to make the world go round.

I'm sure the driver had air too but he played it smart cause if he would have turned the air on everybody on the bus would have said "What the helllll it's freezing outside"

Right I agree with you. Why not say no to one, instead of getting the rest of the riders upset.

I am diabetic, and personally I have never heard anything about the A/C, once in a while if your sugar is low you do tend to get cold sweats, but that's about it. But normally I try to carry the candy's that are especially for diabetics in purse for cases like that. Luckily, since I lost weight, my diabetes is almost gone YAY!!! But like you said if your diabetics and if you know you are going to be out and about running around in the bus, you need to be prepared, I sometimes even carried a small bottle of orange juice just incase if I knew it was going to be a long day. I didn't have a choice my hubby made sure I was well equipped.

Hello missy. You must consider that all persons are humans and are prone to mistakes. Not having sweats and needing for a diabetic person can turn into a life threatening situation. The air conditioning was not fair to start with, but if her life was in danger, asking for a candy was not a big deal if you ask me.

I didn't have a problem with the candy, if I had some I would have given it to her but I eat everything and keep no food in my purse.
