how many hours of sleep do you get a night and how much do you think is needed?

According to a recent Newsweek article, research says shows we need 7 to 9 hours of sleep. How many hours do you sleep a night? And do you think you are meeting the amount you need (and does that amount differ from this research?) Research also shows we don't get enough sleep--maybe we can't turn off our brains from over stimulus, and/or our work schedule prevents a normal amount of sleep. In addition, research shows sleep is essential for our immune system to function and for us to be alert during the day. What other barriers to sleep do you have in your life and what advantages to enough sleep have in your life? Sleep is an essential part of life, so it should be a big discussion in our lives.

Lately, I have absolutely no clue as to how many hours a night I get. The reason being I gave birth to my daughter almost a month ago and, much like any newborn, she has been keeping my husband and I up at night. Before she was born, we would get our 8 hours of sleep a night easily, but things have changed.

I believe in getting 8 hrs a night but I often don't meet that number. Usually I end up staying up too late and then having a hard time going to bed. I love sleep, but I have no choice but to get up in the morning (work, baby, etc). I should force myself to go to bed earlier but I just love the quiet time at night.
