Dear Friends A question which is always in my mind is how to impress upon the youngsters to desist from the habit of smoking. In my opinion a concerted effort to educate the masses about the harmful effects of smoking through community meeting , enlisting the support of social groups and media is very important to have a positive impact on anti smoking campaign.Your views and suggestions on this cause are most welcome. Kids would get into smoking as they see it being "Cool" or wanting to appear more Adult..not for the cost of it and the risk of illness, the odour clinging to clothes,or the fire risk..Having Recent Non Smoking Policies in public areas and on transport has to an extent marginalised Smokers, though it is still being taken up. My Aunt and Uncle gave up the habit Years back for Health reasons when they were raising their Family-and at family Gatherings when I meet my cousins, some of them smoke...Leading by Example doesn't always work.

Sadly, as with many things, I'm not sure if young people would listen to any warnings before starting to smoke. I wish I never had begun, but if there were an effective way of putting young people off it forever, then I'd use it as starting is probably one of my biggest life regrets in that I find it impossible, despite having tried time and time again over a period of many, many years, to stop. I do sometimes think that putting a real downer on something can make it more attractive to some young people, from the point of view of rebellion - if their elders or those of their peers who they consider to be "goody-goody" condemn something, they immediately want to go out and try it.
