youtube personalities

does anyone know how youtube personalities get their money? I know that a lot of them, after they get popular and famous get gigs here and there from places, end up on commercials, or are paid to mention a product on their vlog. I also know that the ads are another way they get paid. Of course their loyal fans send them things like presents, gift cards so that they can survive (eat, drink, shop, be merry). Does anyone know of any other ways they get paid? I was just curious to know if that is the only ways or if there were more ways. If you know please let me know. I'd love to buy a little digital camera/camcorder and do a youtube channel but I wouldn't show my face, it'd be.. well it'd be different that's for sure.

I know a girl from an old workplace who does instructional video on how to apply make up on youtube. The first thing she got was to have a following on youtube. I think you have to reach a certain number of followers for youtube to notice you and be offered payment for posting vlogs. She doesn't say how much she gets paid, but she does get a lot of products from make up companies so she can use them in her vlogs. She has a lot of samples that she just gives it to friends.
