This new year, learn while you help!

Millions of people all over the world continue to die of starvation. We normally want to do things for our benefit. Why not do something this new year for the benefit of these starving people while benefiting ourselves, not in real monetary terms directly but indirectly in the long run? By improving knowledge of English words, playing a simple word game, while the system automatically donates 10 grains of rice for every right word. With thanks to marguicha, who first introduced this link to me, I reproduce it here: http://freerice.com/...vocabulary/1368 FreeRice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Program, which should remove any suspicions about its credibility. I have signed up. What about you?

I've known this website for quite a few years now. In the beginning I would spend a few minutes a week doing the quiz. It's cool for a few moments but it would be awesome if they'd also have some other quizzes or games so that there's some variation. It's terrible to say but at a given moment the boredness takes over my motivation to continue.

I think you have a point there. They must do something to help visitors/members sustain their interest!

Thanks, friend, for mentioning me. I wish I could do more. And diamania, there is a way to make it more interesting. Join a group or create one. And there are several games, not only the vocabulary one. You can learn other languages, check your knowledge of painters and art, and so on. Give it a new try. Tell yourself to give it 5 minutes a day. Or reach a minimum goal (even 100 grains is more tha nothing).

marguicha: I'm sorry, I couldn't update or resolve all my discussions where people had commented. And I'm late.. I've set aside time today to do my best to touch base on all my unresolved discussions. Thanks for sharing additional info about freerice.com

I've known about freerice for a while now and I will go on there and play from time to time when I have some time to kill. One of the things that I really like about it is that I've been able to learn several words that I didn't already know. I also like the fact that you are able to help other people while you are playing the game. I hope a lot more people will start doing this to help those that are starving.

Wow, I didnt know something like that existed. :) I mean..our RBI did stop us from sending any dollars to any such organizations, isn't it? Now, this is a simpler way... I will definitely join it. Thanks.. :)

You just donate rice by playing. No need to spend money, only a bit of your time. Every grain of rice helps. This site belongs to the WFP of the United Nations. I hope you like it!!!

Hi Pushhyarag It says the page was not found But anyway I have known this for years already, I posted this on my old blogger account too. I don't know that it is still there up to now. Hopefully the site will be up and running again as I have said I couldn't get in now following the link you gave here.

Hi ene! You are right, it's showing 'page not found' error, though I thought it was OK when I checked it before publishing. Anyways, here's the link again and I hope members notice this: http://freerice.com/#/english-vocabulary/1368 Thanks!

10 grains of rice isn't much but I guess it will add up as quickly as Mylot earnings. This is a non conventional way of donating. I will check out the website.

Ollanna: I'm late acknowledging your comment. A marguicha says, any contribution, small or big will mean a lot to the needy. We'll keep at it!
