Small town ignorance

Today one of my friends on facebook was complaining that she couldn't get a job in the local city because she was from a certain small town where people aren't thought of very highly. I do get really frustrated with this kind of ignorance and I have found in my travels it can be worse in small towns or small cities. Some people class themselves higher than others but I think this is nothing other than small town ignorance. Even if you are from another class you should think carefully before you put down others before you know their full story. There are many great stories and movies about great people rising up out of small towns and lower classes. The small city where I grew up is terrible for making comments and putting down others in hard situations without having any idea what they are going through. I have found since I have moved to a bigger city it isn't quite as bad. Do you find this where you live?

You are very true my friend. As I am from India, I can give you a great example. There was a boy in India who was from a very small village and was ultra poor. His family was not able to afford the electricity bills so he use to study under street lamps. later he became a nuclear scientist and then the president of India. Dr Abdul Kalam "The missile man of India" , probably the best president India ever had.

That is a great story. Thank you so much. I am a firm believer that anyone can do anything. We all just need to find our gifts and strengths within ourselves. It is so ignorant of one person to look down on another and in the town that I am talking about a large portion of the community is very uppity, self centered and ignorant, constantly putting down the lower and middle classes. I think it is better to beat 'em than join 'em in this case! Thank You for the inspiring example!

If she can't get a job just because of hearsay, the people in charge of hiring aren't doing a very good job! You get hired because of your abilities and experience! I've lived in a town of 2000 people, a major suburb and a huge city. Everywhere I have found gossip. Small towns are the worst because everyone knows everyone!
