Hi syoti20! Before I answer your question, may I ask you a few questions regarding your friend? What kind of kidney problem does he have? Did he ever have his creatinine checked? If yes, what is the value? I am asking you these questions because there might be advises that I might be giving you that would harm more his kidney. Hope to hear from you the soonest.

If his kidney already has problem, and is undergoing dialysis, there's nothing much he can do about it unless he gets a new kidney, donated from someone. If not, he shall continue his agony of going through the dialysis process, controlling his diet. It's not just the kidney, but all organs in our body, we have to take care of them before something goes wrong. When it happens and we decide to stop it, the damage has already done

I have always been told to drink lots of water to help your kidneys to flush and work properly.
