Hello mylotters! I've been reading The Canterbury Tales, specifically the Pardoner's Tale. In the story, three friends were looking for Death to kill him. But instead, they came upon a tree with bushels of money and they plotted against one another so that they could keep the money for themselves. So, in the end, they did find Death but in the form of money. The message of the story is that the love of money is the root of all evil. Do you think that it is indeed the root of all evil? Why or why not?

Money is not the root of all evil: greed and jealousy are. Money is just a physical representation of that.

Nope, the greed and jealousy exist without the money. They exist with absolutely any society where possessions exist. Money is simply a mathematical system to replace barter and allow easier trade - the greed and jealousy were around LONG before money was invented.

Greed and jealousy are here even during the time of Moses. Cain killed Abel because of jealousy.

It certainly can be. All things in moderation is the way to live. When you covet such things it can only end in trouble. People begin to become selfish and self serving when this happens. No good can come of it except in very small cases. Life and good times are best when all is in moderation and earned with hard work.

Yes, I think you're right. Just like what Friar Lawrence said in Romeo and Juliet, "Love moderately." That isn't only true for romantic love but for other things as well.

oh yes money can be the root of all evail, I have seen many things happening because of money, some people have no pride when it comes to money it seems to relieve them of any conscience about what they do, it is very sad.

All you have to do is look around to know that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

1 Timothy 6:10 is the most misquoted verse in the Bible: For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. Money itself is not evil, the fact that people love it and become greedy and sin is what's evil about it.
