windows xp3 ish

So I updated my old system from xp2 to xp3 (after doing a full backup of course) but something failed, so now I look at my system and it says XP3, but I keep getting offred the XP3 automatic update. Several of my USB devices (scanner & memory card readers) constantly fail. I guess it didn't do everything. I shall try agin after another backup, anybody seen anything similar or have any good suggestions - apart from get on with the next install :). I'd like to go in with my eyes open rather than debug on the fly.....

Haven't been keeping up on windows a whole lot lately. Was this an upgrade from service pack 2 to SP3 or just an update. I'm still running windows xp service pack 2 just fine. I would suggest you install the automatic updates, as they may be needed to help solve some of your problems. If the problems persist try updating the drivers for any hardware that isn't working properly. Personally, once I get my system tweaked, I try and keep upgrades to a minimun as it tends to cause collateral hassle. Upgrading often isn't worth the trouble.

Yeah I try to leave it alone if possible, but sometimes a new bit of kit or software requires something more, I'd have stayed on XP SP2 if I had the choice
