I don't work at the moment but the closest I came to having to re-apply was in my previous employment at LCC, Preston, where two guys in another department were awaiting re-deployment..and my job was up for grabs as they were permanent and I was not at the time. It was up to them if either wanted my job..or not. I was told this bombshell a couple of weeks before Christmas a few years ago, so you can imagine what it was like..all very tense and worrying. Then (even though my immediate boss kept giving me the runaround) I was told in the New Year that my job was safe and I was to be made permanent. To say I was relieved was an understatement.
Others aren't so lucky though and some even have to re-apply for their own jobs. There is none of this "last in, first to go" anymore, something (I think) should be brought back.
Nothing can compare to the following story though. Please read it as it may actually HELP you to realise what is important in life. It is tragic what happened to this man and heaven only knows what was going through his mind at the time.
My heart goes out to his family but please don't judge him..it can happen to anybody.

The last sentence in the above article is particularly callous under the circumstances.
