Relocating... which city or country would you prefer?

People are relocating from one city or country to another. Some for economic reasons, others for social, security, investment, sports, political, educational, family, retirement and other reasons. I am in Johannesburg South Africa. If I am to relocate from here I would like to make it..... (choice withheld till further notice). I believe that success has no capital - you can succeed anywhere with or without excellent facilities depending on what you want. Do you like the city or country you currently reside? Would you love to relocate or are you planning to? If yes, which city is your favourite next destination? Or is it a country of choice? Then what would be your resons for leaving A and what made you to choose B? Could one location be better than the other? ....???????? Even if yours is just on 'perhaps / assumption' basis, let's compare notes.

Where I to relocate it would probably be to SA, I would prefer to live out of town. Given a free choice I might choice Dorset, Devon or perhaps somewhere in Scotland all the best urban

Tired of UK? To be tired of UK would be to be tired of life or of one's heart. OH, to be in England now that April ’s there And whoever wakes in England sees, some morning, unaware, That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf, While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough In England—now! And after April, when Mary follows And the white-throat builds, and all the swallows! Hark, where my blossom’d pear-tree in the hedge Leans to the field and scatters on the clover Blossoms and dewdrops—at the bent spray’s edge— That ’s the wise thrush: he sings each song twice over Lest you should think he never could re-capture The first fine careless rapture! And, though the fields look rough with hoary dew, All will be gay when noontide wakes anew The buttercups, the little children’s dower, Far brighter than this gaudy melon-flower! You gave me my birth Then you made me pay What is it worth To cast me away Lying in the bushes Dying in my arms You stand here with nothing But you've still got english charm Oh England, you're my home My heart's heart Crashing thunder of love You're a place of the poor Open wound Sure your my last rite You cut your own throat Then you let it bleed Misleading your people From what they all need Roots forgotten That's what we all say But what does it matter Now we're the USA Why is it England I feel like rubbish on your streets Why is it when I care If feel incomplete Why does our future seem Such a feat When will our consciousness Finally meet Oh, whatever happened to My green and pleasant land Even recalling these lines of others, brings a tear to my eye And Scotland and Africa come from family connections but it's so hot down South, I think I would melt in your summer all the best urban

Having said that, I must admit that whenever I have touched down in Africa, just to step off the plane onto African soil produces in me such feelings of excitation all the best urban

Hello, wysecom. I would love to go somewhere the temp is always 78. I am tired of cold and hot. Why can't we have a happy medium? It would have to be somewhere close to travel lanes, and near shopping. Hawaii would be perfect. I really do like where I live but the jobs are almost nonexsistant. I hope to find work soon but the reality is that I may not here. So, the real reason I want to move is because of work. The ability is also another story. Moving costs alot as well. I will have to get back to you on what takes place in the next month. Take care. :)

Cody, are you complaining of the cold in your part of the world! there are people complaining of the heat in their part as well. If it is cold, wear warm clothings but heat, ...mmmmmm.... very uncomfortable. I pray you get a job soon ... not just a job... but a good befitting job which would bring you joy and happiness with excess money to meet your family's needs and wants. But where would you be heading? Hawaii for both work and avoidance of high temperatures!

That sounds great. Lets all go to Hawaii, get jobs harvesting sugarcane, and spending the nights sitting on the beach, and having lots of sweets. That for me is the life. No, really, like I posted, for work and for great temps. I can live anywhere but I would like to live where the temp is even. That is what I would like.

I am living in my home state, Texas....although I would consider visiting other countries, I will remain living right here in the good 'ole USA. I have moved away from my home state (1500) miles to the Northeast, was there for 4 years, it was great to see another part of the country and learn the differences. If I were to move again, which I might, I would move to Tennessee. Being from the south, there is nothing that compares. The difference is there are mountains in Tennessee and I love that. I also miss the snow of the northeast! Some think I'm crazy for missing that lol. I would also be closer to my oldest daughter, and not that far away from my youngest (they are both grown). 8 hour drive to one, day and half to other. I will be making several trips out there this year, moving is a big decision, and I want to make sure thats what I want to do, and where I want to move too.

Why not try 'outside the USA' for a change! We do have snow in different parts of the world. And if you are travel outside USA, try Africa. It is worth a trip for less.

From what I have read according to some quarters, cost of living is almost the same. If housing is cheap in a city, food, transportation and clothing cleans the bank balance. So it becomes a give and take stuff; it depends on what you prefer. But if you are moving with cash from a highly valued crrency to a lowly valued one, then you can have a superiority. Ravi, wouldn't stay in place just because my relatives are closeby. I don't depend on people but on God and self. Relatives could be more expensive to maintain in close proximity. Other facilities, OK but in most cities, these facilities are beoming more expensive these days. Very soon, we would be migrating to the forests and deserts to live because the monies made in the cities are consumed within the cities unless on plans hard.

yes. all the places are more or less costly now. However big cities like tokyo, Delhi, mumbai will be very very costly. One should stay in a place where he has a place to stay,a few relatives to depend upon and hospital facilities properly.

welcome to mylot. I am now in my native place the GREAT Chennai. This is the capital of tamil Nadu. I do not feel like shifting from here. However we may go and stay with our children for a few months whenever they call or there is necessity for our presence therein. Otherwise one's native place is the best place for people to reside after retirement from active service.

Ravi, I do not jealous you that one; back to your roots. Retirement is sweet after investing well. I am not ripe for retirement but Iam planning towards that. Which country is Chennai? what do you manufacture there? Sounds like a great and nice place to be? Could cost of living be better there for someone on a salary scale not too high?

I am currently located to a country where my field of expertise were not having a good compensation. Although I had so many good memories here, I would prefer to relocate to another country where I can be paid more.

Both of them are OK except for the security concerns, if the newspaper reports are anything to go by. But you can still get something better right where you are unless you believe that dollar payments would help better in your future investment and retirement plans. i feel and share your concern. i wish you the best of the best.

You can't waste your talents where you are not properly paid in your prime. If relocating for greener pastures, you have to be sure the pastures are actually green in your destination before you pick a ticket; some pasture could be painted green but not naturally green, probably artificial grass. Which country or city do you have in mind?
25 Jan 12
For now, I am not so sure of where would I prefer to work. I am still waiting for a right opportunity to come. I am considering in the middle east or somewhere in America, hopefully.

Even if there is no food, water, or shelter? Have you ever travelled out of hometown? At least you should move around a bit abd finally spend your retirement at hometown.

I would have loved to migrate to New Zealand or Australia. I love how it is nearer to home (philippines) and the way of life there, as I heard, is really not as complicated or stressful as other countries that I have been eyeing for the last 6 years or so. A lot of my friends are also there but then circumstances didn't really allow me so I kind of shifted my plans to Canada instead.

East or West, home is the best. But home does not have most of the things we long for. If you ever relocate to Australia, greet the aborigines for me. I have not seen a real kangaroo before. Do you know anything about the people from Vanuatu?

hello, wysecom, after move from Semarang city to Palembang city ( both located on Indonesia, South-East Asia ) for work reason, I would say to you that no place as comfort as home.even I had almost three years here, I still feel like stranger everytime I go and that's why I promise if someday I have to come back to my hometown and live there again.in fact, I love daring adventure. I enjoy this new place even want to come back.I want to go everywhere I wanna be, I'm kind of independent. I hope someday fate may relocate me to London, England or Venice or somewhere in Italy. It might sounds crazy but that's what I've been dreaming about..... that's my fairytale!

Dear Red.. Please make the best of Palembang City. Save all the money you could before daring to venture abroad. The citites you have mentioned are so fastpaced you may need so much unless you are willing and ready to start all over again. Starting all over is not for the lilly hearted. But don't cry your eyes red, plan well and research on those cities when you are ready. Meanwhile, have you ever applied for a job in any of those cities? It would be better if you get a job first before packing your bags.

If I am to ignore the cost of living, I'd definitely choose Italy or any place in Europe! I've been in love with the place that I tend to go online and do a bit of research of the place. I believe that Europe's a place full of literary contributions and colorful cultures/traditions. But then, if it's some place where I'm currently located, I would choose Japan. I've been an avid Japanese Culture enthusiast and I love to live in Japan. They have very colorful POP culture and music. I would love to learn more about Japan. Basically, it would depend on the country's history, culture, tradition and literary contribution :D

I reside now in Mumbai, in India and my hometown is in Chennai.. I really love the place that I reside in and love India as a country. But being in the finance field I feel that I have more scope if I move to Singapore.. If I ever want ti relocate it will be to Singapore as it is a very beautiful place, the people are very friendly, it is so neat and clean and it is the closest to home I can find.. Cheers

Your research is fine and the choice of Singapore is excellent. India is a good place. I once thought of marrying a beautiful Indian princess. Best of the best in your search and plans. But India is good in the numbers game, I believe competition would be very high in anything numerical there; most of the tough books on mathematics, statistics, vectors, algebra, etc has been Indian authored.
