We are surrounded by people from different places, religions and cultures. We end up either finding faults in them or try to show our cast, our place much better than others. Have we ever tried to gain or learn something valuable? I always had friends from all over the world and i never understood their importance. Until years later I realize they have so much more to offer to me than just friendship. So i started to learn something or the other from my friends and their different backgrounds. I learned Iranian way of being polite and kind, I learned Japanese songs, I learned how to be elegant the french way, I learned the ways of greeting guests the Arab way, I learned the traditional Indian cooking with passion and love.. And much more.. Over the years, each and everything that I learned has helped me grow into a better person, to understand others better... How about you my friends? Do you like to learn culture and traditions?

I learned a lot of things which I got from school and outside school. Things which I learned from the school are very helpful to realize the existence of other entities like us. From Asia to the West side of the world, I have come to know the different lifestyles they have. The languages which sound weird in our ears were special for me. Outside school, media is a big factor. Media was able to bridge the gap between cultures of the world. I met people from other countries and share with them my culture so as theirs.

Hey there , Bamboee and Cearn. I think in our modern age , we become more and more like a one big society and we need more and more to learn about each other : what's important for me , what's important for the other , how we think and our culture , many more things. It can just help us living among others with harmony and understanding. Now , with the internet , it is more possible than ever , we just have to take some time for learning.

Hello Dear Cearn, Thanks alot for your response, I completely agree that media is a really huge gap between cultures of the world. Even if there is a little gap it tries to create more and make more differences amongst people. I am glad you see past that and I hope many others too. Because I truly believe we all are one and that we should know each other better to love each others differences. Cheers.

I have traveled to over fifty different countries. I have learned something from the places I have been to. I know that it is important to a care for wild animals all over the world. I have found out not to speak French to a Flemish person. It is better to talk to them in English. I have learned about long distance walking and camping in New Zealand. I have become a better person now I understand different nationalities. I went to Israel and it let me learn more about religion. I have friends in different countries which I like and value.

yeah, i would love to, especially those nations who were able to keep the values and traditions of the past even in this modern age that we are right now... Admirable people are those who can still look back and respect what was and embrace what is...

I've learned a lot! To be honest, when it comes to culture and tradition I am a sucker. I usually ignore it, but When I fell in love watching Korean Dramas, I started to love their culture and tradition unconsciously. I think learning their culture and tradition is good way of exploring more about the world.

Hello Queen, I am glad that there is something that caught your attention. My mother is big fan of Koreans and their culture and way of living. She loves watching their shows and all about them. Specially their channel Arirang, that is her favorite of all. :) I wish to learn more about them too.. Cheers.

I have learned that there are still people who live like in the middle ages. That many men don't have respect for women at all and still treat them as if they are nothing worth. I also learned that many women are unhappy but still accept this behaviour. I found out that even I respect others the way they are they don't respect me (I can live with that btw). I have friends in many countries as well, it´s good to have an open view for other cultures, believes, opinions even if this means others are not willing to understand me at all.

Well you are right, I have learned the bad side as well. That there are many people even after being educated they live like they are cave men and nothing can change their thinking!! We do learn many things from many cultures, but we should take the good things and leave the bad one's out. I love the way my friend's family says grace before having a meal I love when they try to take flowers when someone is sick.. or take over a casserole when someone is leaving out of town.. Thanks for your response dear.

In today's border-less world with internet connecting almost every computers and hand phones, it is HARDnot being exposed to foreign stuff. I feel we all have to be ready with the unavoidable culture shocks. We all have to be open-minded with anything that we may not understand now. Learn to appreciate the foreign traditional ways. Study the merits of ideas and philosophies by which the foreign people are following. Only thru understanding can we become a part of the world village and flourish from it. I am lucky living in a multicultural society in Malaysia. So I have used to different ways of life behaviors. We understand and respect each others' way of life, and that is the reason why we can all live together happily and in peace. For example, during festivals like Muslim Eid ul-Fitr, Chinese New Year, Indian Deepavali, and Kadazan/Iban Harvest festival, we have the tradition of open-house to welcome visits by our friends from all races like Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, and Ibans. I am proud of what our country has achieved as a multiracial society but there is always more we can do to be a truly world society. I feel by recognizing that we are all just a member of human beings, that we have to think in a perspective that encompass the whole world and that our differences are just rivers that eventually will go to the same sea, we could live together in peace and would try to make this only world of us a better one.

Despite of its many disasters and tragedies, it is still a beautiful world because of the love and care which we take for granted at times with our close ones, but we never show enough of that towards the unfortunate ones who need them badly. We all can do our part, however little it may be, to help the people in need. Learning others' culture is a step to understand others better. By understanding each other we all will be able to live in peace. Thanks for the BR :)

I really like your thoughts and it truly makes me happy to know that there are people out there who are looking for a better world, to bring people closer together. Its true that just a little gesture can make a huge a difference. When ever I go to a mall, I see these sweepers who are cleaning the bathrooms and the floors. I see them watching people eat and enjoy, as they cant do the same. So I purchase for them burgers or a good meal that they can enjoy. One day when I went back to the mall, all of the sweepers bought be a little rose flower as a thank you gesture - i was really surprised. They said nobody had been so kind to them, and they wanted to give me something too. I felt so delighted that I could make them smile. I hope more of us can work towards this goal.. Cheers my friend, Thanks for your BR too :D

Hello Dear Jkct02, Thanks for such a wonderful response. You have said it all, that in today's world with the technology it really impossible not to know or learn about different people and even interact with them. In a way its really amazing because it tells us more reality about people than what the media exposes. Malaysia is a really beautiful place, I always wished that it would be my first country to travel to. I always wanted to live there and know about their culture. I have heard and read so much about the place, i just fell in love with it. With different people from all over the world, living in harmony - its truly beautiful. I really admire that you share and embrace each others special occasions and festivals. Here in Dubai, we live with 50+ different nationalities and we share each others happy and sad moments together. Its truly beautiful because then it seems possible that one day a world could come to a state of peace and harmony. Thanks again for your response, I hope we all are as determined as you to make this world a better one for all of us! Cheers.

Yes,I like learning other culture and tradition. That's really fun especially when you are talking with the person who comes from that particular area/place. I have an Indian family friend here in my country. We're friends for many years already and they've taught me all their different cultures and tradition particularly from their state. That's really great info and new learning.

I must say I love this discussion. Its idea and what I read of it's responses are very inspiring. I don't really investigate cultures and all but I try to know people in person , to learn from their behavior , from what the tell me , and more. We can learn something from everyone around us so I always try to listen to the common sense before I develope any opinion about someone. For example , some people that are not popular or people tend to stay away from ... I never do that , I try to know them , talk to them and etc... We had a sudan worker in my house and I talked with him , he told me they had many problems at sudan and he ran away for his life. He was nice and humble , just work not so well and he took a very low price for his work.

hello friendship bamboee, The best thing I've learned is that you can develop and value true friendship with people around the world, despite of different cultures, traditions and beliefs. And that man are flexible enough to bring out good ideas beyond their widest imagination to touch others lives. Although we grew up from different families, environments and races, we do still manage to meet up at a certain point of view! Embracing and imitating the culture, food, manners, and ways of others is proving that man has the ability to endorse himself/herself to an organization or to a new family.

Hello Dearest Friend Myzhian, Your are truly right, i believe friendship really plays a major role in bringing people together and bridging the gap. Its easy to make foes but different to make friends because in friendship you accept each others differences without taking out any faults. When that happens you automatically come into the circle of being ONE! Thus, people around the world can become closer, can work towards harmony and peace and make this world a better place - with a simple beautiful yet very powerful relationship called friendship! THanks dear for your kind response. God bless u. Cheers

I have learned that the world is a lot scarier place than I originally realized. That what little troubles we have here, there are much worse ones on the other side of the world. I have heard all kinds of horror stories from people from different regions and I must say... I at first didn't believe in them, how I didn't want to believe in them. But for all that, I did learn nice little things too that give me insight on how each people handle things and also learned that there are many things that don't change from culture to culture.

Hello Shindarkfox, Our picture perfect world is never perfect. Specially what we always think it would be and then we are hit by reality. But reality is not that cruel and harsh. If there is horror, then there is also light in the world. I know most of the times we are faced with bad circumstances but when good times do come too. Evil does not last forever and good always has its victory. No matter what we do, who we are - there is one thing common in us and that us we all end up in the grave. We are going to go to one place, so why think better than other? We all should learn to embrace and love each other and accept each other, just like who we are. When the sun rises everyone wakes up and when it sets we all fall asleep.. If we hold that thinking, that we are doing everything same just in a different place then we can truly having peace and harmony in this world. I am glad you learned nice things because the world might be filled with alot of bad things, specially which are seen more often. But the world is also filled with good things, you just have to make your mind in a way to ignore the bad and embrace the good. Thanks alot dear, Cheers.
