gantt chart

Hello guys I have a question. Why is a gantt chart important? I've a trial version and is expiring and I couldn't make something useful out of it. Can you give an instance where a gantt chart is needed and useful? Apart from a gantt chart, what other charts that you find as a necessity?

It seems Gantt charts are meant to present a list of tasks to produce a given outcome. Perhaps the next questions include: how many people are involved, what tasks can be done at the same time and what tasks are dependent on the completion of other tasks ... What do you think?
