Have you ever lived in a house that had ghosts?

This is a true story. It happened to us! I was not a full believer in ghosts until we lived in that house. It started a month after we moved in. I sent the boys to school and went back into the kitchen to clean up. I heard my oldest son yell "Mom?" so I started walking to his bedroom and remembered that I was the only one in the house. I thought "Ok, we just moved to a new town and into a new house. I'm worried about the boys starting a new school and making new friends." I went back to the kitchen to finish cleaning up and heard it again, "Mom?". It was my oldest son's voice and so clear. But I knew it really didn't happen. The next day I was watching TV in the downstairs family room and heard footsteps in the kitchen. I went upstairs thinking the boys just got home and wanted an after school snack. No one was there. I looked at the clock and school didn't get out for another hour. One day I was in the kitchen and the boys were watching TV downstairs and one of them comes up and says "Yeah Mom?" and I said "What?" and he said "You yelled for me to come up here" and I said, "no, I didn't" so he went back downstairs. The sound of someone walking around in the kitchen when we were downstairs and "our" voices summoning each other were regular happenings in this house. Then something else happened about 6 months into living there. Everyone was in bed, my husband was sleeping and I had just fallen asleep. I was laying on my right side facing the outside of the bed. I woke up and there was an old lady leaning over looking at me!! I kinda jumped back and was now laying on my back. Then I saw an old man on the same side of the bed as the old lady, but closer to the end of the bed. He had one of those old fashioned cameras attached to a tripod. It was the kind of camera that had a piece of material that went over your head and a hand held flash. He snapped the picture and the flash made that Pffftt! sound. My brother confided in me (after I told him about the strange happenings) that he saw the old lady once, she was going down the stairs. He said she wasn't actually walking, more like floating. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we had a siamese cat that had been with us for 4 yrs before we moved. In the new house he crept with his tummy to the floor. He rarely walked normal and once he attacked my brother by jumping up against his chest and biting him!! That was not normal for our cat. We lived there for 3 years with these voices, footsteps and the old couple. The boys and my husband hated living there, I still loved it there. The ghosts were never mean to us, but I finally gave in and we sold the home. Soooo, any comments on this? Has this ever happened to you?

That was really scary. I wonder what did you do after you first saw the old lady and the old man. If I was the one who lived, I wouldn't be able to live there for more than a month. I wouldn't stay for three years there.

But what did you do just right after you saw them? Did you just went back to sleep? And how did you manage to go back to sleep after seeing them? But it's good that they weren't trying to scare. Did you ever try talking to them? Like introducing yourselves to them?

Well, in the morning after it happened I was trying to determine if it was a dream or not. But I know it wasn't. They weren't there to scare us. It was almost like they were curious about us like we were of them. If they had been mean or frightening, we probably would of moved sooner. It was annoying when they would say our name and make it sound like it was from another family member. Most of the time it sounded like it was coming from downstairs when we were upstairs and vice versa, so we were going up and down stairs a lot.

I've never actually lived in a house that was haunted, but my mother used to own a property that we spent the night at on a regular basis and it was haunted. Not only would you hear voices and sometimes see figures (the one that sticks in my mind the most was a young girl). There were also times that things would be moved from one place to another. It was really freaky, but I still have to admit that I loved it there and I hate the fact that Mom had to sell the property.

Do you remember what they used to say? They must not have been mean to you since you loved it there. Have you heard if the new owners experienced the same? The house we lived in was built in 1978 and we lived there from 1994-1997. We were reading the abstract and seen that we were the 5th owners of that house. The house was only 16 yrs old when we bought it. So it makes me wonder if others moved out because of the same thing.

Welcome to mylot and many thanks for sharing this true story in details. I am very fond of ghosts, as a member of the local ghost hunter society i have many such encounters. The house we live has a very old drumstick tree, 2 harmless ghosts live there,i have seen them. Last night one of them talked to me. Professor

I have a farting ghost. I know you think im trolling but its true. Its not so much the sound as the smell. I don't know who use to live here but whom ever it was leaves the weirdest smells. Its favorite smell is rotten eggs or black licorice. Only reason i chalk the smells up to a ghost is because he/she is a prankster and will move things on me. Ill get a drink of soda and set it by my couch and when i go in to sit down it will be on my tv stand or across the room. I dont have and big animals and live alone so unless i have Alzheimers then im pretty sure is something else.

LOL! I've heard of that, ghosts leaving smells. I've heard that ghosts sometimes choose a house that they didn't live in. I don't think my ghosts had actually lived in the house, but probably a farm house on or near that property because this was an old couple, probably in their 80's. We owned the house from 1994-1997

Stories like this really pick my attension. We moved into a haunted house when we were kids. Nothing really creepy happened that i recall but the house was demolished as soon as we moved out.

Was the house demolished because it was haunted?

I do believe in ghosts, and I have believed in ghosts for a long time now, but I can't say that I've ever lived in a haunted house. Although I would be interested in trying to live in one for a while, to say the least.

It was interesting. Luckily our ghosts were nice. I worked with a girl who lived in a house, with her fiance, where the ghosts would move things and stack the dining chairs in front of the kitchen door. They never saw them but she said it was very creepy.

I used to live in a haunted house in my teenage year. It is a long story and quite a hair raising experience for me as a young boy having to live through this extraordinary phenomenal for a while even though the Ghost doesn't means to do me any harm. The fact that having to witness some strange thing happened once a while and few times a week in the middle of the night is more than enough to scare the pee and sweat out of me sometimes. Anyway, my parent stay put without moving out and eventually the weird stuff is not happening anymore. She is just a harmless spirit that is wondering and seeking for some answer, she may have found what she is looking for after a while, then go back to her world again without bothering us anymore. Wow!!

Hmmm... that is strange. Maybe she wasn't getting the reaction out of you that she wanted. Even though you were scared, you might not of shown it to her satisfaction. So she gave up. :)

I guess the voices are just fine I can deal with that. But the old couple? Wow, I can't even live there for a 1 more week if that happened to me. Wow that is just very creepy.

When I first saw them in bed, it was creepy! But they never did anything mean. It was almost like they were as fascinated with me as I was with them.

Yes I am a strong believer in ghosts. The childhood home that I lived in when I was very young was a home with a history. In the basement was hidden passages and tunnels. There was a hidden room in the chimney. Through some research we found out that that house was the second house built in the city and was a stop in the Underground Railroad. We would be in bed and the toilet would flush itself or the tub or sink faucet would turn itself on. Lights also turned themselves on. There was no explanation for it. My parents later moved to a home that was built over an abandoned coal mine. We had everything from winking Cabbage Patch dolls in that house to floating potato chips and multiple people saw the same things happen. Most of these ghosts have been pranksters but there are also bad ghosts called poltergeists. I have been fortunate enough not to have encountered those.

Wow, 2 homes and they are both haunted! A hidden room in the chimney? Must have been a big chimney. Your first house sounds very interesting since it was a stop in the underground railroad. So, does that mean that there were tunnels in your basement that went to other tunnels not under your house? It's weird, but I think I would be more comfortable in your 1st house, winking Cabbage Patch dolls sound like something out of 'Chucky'. That movie scared the crap out of me!

It seemed an interesting and horrifying incident. It is about a house where you were living . I think you were very brave to live there for three years, with your school going children, because those ghosts might have hurt your innocent children or frightened them. I want to know that why didn't you hate to live there because after all the ghosts are not human and they would behave like ghost only.

The ghosts were not mean. They did scare our children some. The one that they scared the most was our siamese cat. He always walked low with his tummy touching the floor. At first I was scared, but then when I realized they never did anything physical to our things or to us I wasn't scared. Sometimes it was annoying because it was interruptions for no reason. But I knew it wasn't good for the kids, and my husband never liked the house anyway, so we moved.
