my chemo was postponed

I went in today for bloodwork so they could decide whether I would have chemo tomorrow or not. I waited for the results so they would know whether they should deaccess my port or leave it in so I wouldn't have to be poked again tomorrow. It turned out my wbc count was only 1000 and they needed it at 1500 or better so they told me I have to wait until next week for my treatment. Not that I am complaining. I won't have to spend my birthday at the hospital, but it means I have to reschedule a number of things that I had planned for next week. Oh well...

Thanks for the response. I did have the chemo last Tuesday. I wound up in the hospital again on Sunday with a kidney infection and a UTI. I am still in the hospital, but did get up walking today and have decided to order a real breakfast for a change. I just hope that the next cycle is easier. I guess I will find out more when the doctor comes by later today. Have a great week!!!

I'm sorry to hear that they had to postpone your chemo. That was one of the things that was really frustrating to me when Tom was going through his chemo last year. He would have a doctor's appointment scheduled with chemo to immediately follow and there would be something that would happen that would delay him. The first delay was because his lungs didn't sound quite right and his second delay was because the catheter in his port had moved out of place and he had to have his port replaced before he was able to continue chemo.

I think that with all the times I had chemo this is only the second time I was delayed for this reason. They said that they would be giving the nulasta (not sure of spelling) shot after all my treatments now so that should not be as much of a problem in the future. I hope that this port doesn't give me any problems because I'd hate to get cut again. Thanks for the response!

Such a balancing act to determine how to treat you. I hope you feel okay and that you have a great birthday.

The chemo was rescheduled to next Tuesday and I changed my appointment with the trainer to Monday instead of Wednesday. I had scheduled that on Wednesday because that day is not as busy for her, but I can't do it after chemo so maybe on my next off week...

Sorry to hear that, but at least like you said you be able to enjoy your birthday out of the hospital atmosphere. Bad part is you have to rearrange your schedule, but remember and always think of it this way, things happen for a reason and always remain positive. I want to wish you a wonderful BIRTHDAY and I hope you enjoy your day!!!

I can deal with the rearrangement. I'm not sure what I will be doing, but I'm sure it will be fun and relaxing! Thanks for the response!
