I realise that songs with lyrics are much more preferable compared to instrumental music. Majority of my classmate listens to K-Pop, Western songs such as lady gaga, Justin beiber and so. I listen to western songs but I don't understand Korean music. However I love instrumental music better. Music and pieces from the classical era and romantic era would be my favourite. Currently I'm interested in Bach works. When I introduce instrumental music to my friends, they don't seem to understand it. They say it doesn't click. Though I don't find it hard to understand. I understand it might be the culture but I don't get why it's hard to understand instrumental music. Well, which music would you prefer? Instrumental music or music with lyrics? Share your opinion thanks.:D

Very good topic. I tend to try to appreciate all genres of music but "pop" music like Lady Gaga and justin B, ect. I just can't seem to. That type of music never seems to have any meaning or soul. It seems like producers try to make catchy beats and lyrics that get stuck in people's head so they can make money. The pop music industry seems (to me) like it's only objective is to make as much money as possible and never seems to have a meaning or point. I really enjoy both instrumental music and songs with lyrics (when they have meaning or a message) and Bach is a musical genius in my opinion. When it comes to music the older it is the better it seems to be, but that's just my opinion. Classical music, and up to like the classic rock era is when music seemed to be at its best, and seemed like artists put everything they had into their work. With classical music you would have to spend time on composition and writing notes for each different instrument. Then organize all of your instruments to play in time with each other. Actual hard work went into the creation of a song. Most "pop" music now and day's seems like it's just a computer generated beat with some catchy lyrics slapped on top and it seems like not even close to the amount of hard work went into creating the song as it did in the classical era. Most of friends listen to "western music" as you put it. So I understand what you mean when you try to show them a wonderful piece of instrumental music and they don't get it. I think I may have gotten off topic. So back to your original question. Which type of music do we prefer? Instrumental or music with lyrics? I'm going to say both. I like instrumental because of the amount of work and creativity that went into the making of it. I also like music with lyrics when the song is played with "real" instruments and the lyrics have a meaning or a point to them.

I totally agree:D modern song such as K-pop uses catchy beats and utilises the frequency such that it seems to bore into your mind. Sometimes, I would subconsciously sing a line or two of lady gaga after listen to the radio. I personally don't regard this kind of music as pure art. I would prefer oldies to such song actually:D where instruments are sometimes used. But the most important is their voices are genuine, and not computer edited. :D thanks for sharing:) I appreciate it a lot.

Yes I agree about voices. If a person is singing using their real voice I tend to like the song a lot better than if I hear "Auto Tune" which usually ends up turning me off the song right away.

Hi Heixyin! I have loved classical music ever since i was a teenager. I still do love classical music but my preference is more on choral arts and piano music. I would like you to surf on jon schmidt music over youtube. He is such a great pianist. He is capable of mixing the classic and the pop without compromising the bravura of the classics and the kick-as: of the pop. I would suggest that you pick on Jon Schmidt's Love Story. He was able to combine the song of Taylor Swift's Love Story and La Vida Loca. It was all soooooo classy... you would appreciate it.

I have a wide variety of music that I like. I am not partial to any particular kind and actually take great pleasure in listening to both instrumental and song. I suppose I do listen to what is available in my car which is more of the western kind of music that you mentioned..more along the lines of rock though. When I am at home I search out different stuff on youtube. My b/f is a musician and I am introduced to all kinds of music through him. He likes the kind of stuff that you don't hear very much on the radio.

Hi! I love instrumental too. It is very relaxing especially the sound of piano. I also like to listen to christian music since the lyrics makes more sense than the song of lady gaga and Justin bieber.

there are times i like to listen instrumental music especially when i like some meditations and want to sleep peacefully. songs with lyrics are mostly slow rock songs, love songs especially those 70's & 80's hit songs. they are more relaxing also and help you unwind too.

Bach is good. I love as well some instruments such as Blue Danube, Chopin's Raindrops, Richard Clayderman and etc. Contrastingly, I do love some club hits like Sak Noel "Loca People", Kaskade "Turn It Down";
