People getting angry with too much fiesta and parade

I'm starting to wonder here in Antipolo City, I've seen so many parade going on. But the streets are to narrow to handle them all. Imagine a street with only capable of 2 Jeepney in each direction. That's how narrow it is here! All vehicles needed to stop or any other business deliveries to postponed to let parade take over the streets. Normally it takes 20minutes-1hour. I know it is one of the hits to foreigners or one of tourist attraction. Sometimes its too much. Would you imagine others sacrificing work their jobs . What do you think about this?

the only parade that annoys me is the "San Juan Festival" I remember when they people try to splash water in my while I am wearing corporate attire. They should not do that to people on their way to work. That is the only fiesta that annoys me cos no one wants to get wet if they were on their way to work. I almost attacked a person because of that.

Good thing that's water alone. In our place, I always hear that some people use the water from canals. Others add mud to make it dirtier.

Fiesta is one our Catholic Religion's tradition and its for the saints so i think those who have job on that time should adjust their time on going to work. I think they need to be advance because the parade is not the one that will adjust for them. I also experience to be angry to the parade but i realize that it's also my fault because i know that the other village is celebrating their fiesta but i still prepare my self late so i experience heavy traffic.

Most towns here in country have roads where it was designed for the old karitelas or horse drawn carriages that's why they are so narrow. The problem is that in order to change these, a lot of houses will need to be removed in order to make space. I also don't like parades. I used to like them when I was a child, but now I see it as a trouble for motorists. Unless of course the parade is scheduled on a Sunday or when it's not too busy. There should also be a law as to when and where the parades can take place. And there should be a public announcement days ahead so that people can plan to take alternative routes.

That's the Filipino people from spain where priest teach us to practice. This is really annoying what can we do to stop since most of the filipino is catholic and even if they are not catholic they already agreed upon because they are also like fiestas...only those INC will be not practice fiesta's and so on

Hi kisstin, Hello there I think that parades are fun and exciting , you get tons of people happy and the sorroundings are alive but i guess, we should try to be understanding too of the people that needs to got to school or work since it is also important maybe weekends would b best for long running parades right??

As they say from other comments fiestas are traditional here in the Philippines. I know some people get so annoyed or angry about it, but as you said, this can attract some visitors from other countries, therefore, It also increases the tourism here in Philippines. Maybe they won't get angry if the street is enough wide to accommodate the parade. Sacrificing your job for one day or an hour is not that bad.

Sometimes I also wonder why our local officials give priority to these festivities even at the expense of the small business owners and the hassle it brings to the residents. I mean, it's great that we still honor our patron saints or celebrate other festivities, but we could always do this in a manner that won't cause too much inconvenience to the residents. Parades and stuff shouldn't be done on very narrow streets, or for that matter, streets shouldn't be closed. We're all paying taxes to use these streets so it's a bit unfair if we can't use it because some local official thinks a parade is more important.

fiestas and parade are Filipino traditions that we can not break even at the hype of global technology. it's our way of thanking the town's patron and to celebrate abundance. well for me, if its once a year celebration its fine. the local government should do something about the traffic situations. they must develop a traffic plan and re-routing prior to the fiesta day. like here in sta. maria bulacan, they will totally close the roads in the town proper. all private and public vehicles are not allowed to enter. they provide alternate route so people especially those working will not stuck with the traffic.

It's already a Filipino tradition to hold fiestas. And the parade is one way of heralding that the fiesta will be the next day. When that happens, the government of Antipolo should really make some re-routings so that traffic will not be heavy.

Some would really be pissed when it is fiesta and parade. They are mad because of the traffic and it may affect their income but some would consider as a normal occurrence. They;re used to it since they knew that it is just once in a year to happen.

Parades during fiesta is part of our culture. In our place, during fiesta there is always parade and street dancing which I nice and enjoyable to watch and look for. There are lots of beautiful presentations and costumes.During this parade and street dancing, office workers like me always use the alternative road to avoid traffic and delay in going to work.

I think it gets annoying if it goes on for too long. A lot of workers are affected. It's not like everyday is a holiday so we don't have to worry about getting late. Workers don't have the luxury. They rarely have holidays.

Fiestas are deeply ingrained into the Filipinos lives due to the customs and traditions that most follow blindly. Some even get into heavy debt just to be able to celebrate the fiesta. When fiestas are held in our area and even in the adjoining vicinities, it means heavy traffic because of the "karakol". Most of the workers will file leaves in order to participate in the celebrations. I am not against fiestas but people should be responsible when they hold these celebrations in order not to be the cause of delay for motorists. I remembered walking for some 2 to 3 kilometers on my way home just because of the heavy traffic generated by the parades. These parades should be scheduled during the less busy hours like 1 PM to 3 PM in consideration to those people in a hurry to go home.

It's part of our tradition. It's normal for us to have close the roads for fiestas. Not only are they able to attract tourists but also give fun and a bit of excitement in our lives. And about the roads being closed and the deliveries not being able to pass through, I think that the local community (where the fiesta is going to be celebrated) should advise the drivers that the road will be closed so that they will look for alternative routes. There's always alternative routes. Hope I helped. :)
