Disrespectful towards others

This morning, I was on my way to McDonald's when I noticed the bathrooms are blocked off. I was told there was a syringe on the floor and the bathroom was trashed. This location should have their bathrooms locked. The only way to use the bathrooms is to buy something and to give them your id as well. I know one McDonald's that now requires anyone who uses the bathroom to have purchased food because of all the homeless that would continually use the bathrooms without buying anything. I know people have a right to use the bathroom. But when you continually go in and out of a business like McDonald's, they then have the right to make the rules when it comes to using the bathroom. How can anyone have no respect or care about anyone to where you trash the bathroom so no one can use it?

Hi Desertrose, I agree that trashing a bathroom like that is disrespectful. How far a business can legally go in stopping people from using the bathroom I don't know. I'm sure the laws vary from state to state. I work in a convenience store. Because we have tables and serve some fast foods where people can sit and eat, by law we have to have a public bathroom. At one point, my former boss tried to make it an "employees only" bathroom and told us to use discretion on who we allowed to use it. Myself, I could not say no to anyone wanting to use it. Eventually a health inspector informed her that she could not do that. I imagine having a key and keeping track of who goes in and out would work but then you'd have to inspect it after each person if you want to pinpoint who it is that is trashing the place and who has time for that? McDonald's would be even more difficult as each bathroom has several stalls so it would mean keeping track of several people in and out at once. Unless they had a person there just for bathroom patrol, I would imagine that it would just be a pain in the butt for the workers especially during rush hours.

Oh I agree. It is almost worth it to hire someone just to do that job. On times when it is not busy, there is always cleaning

I think mcdonalds is right about the bathroom being used only by those who purchased the mcdonalds' food. Mcdonalds building is a part of a larger building like in malls. I think other people can use the toilets outside mcdonalds. Is it because mcdonalds bathroom is better than those outside?

Hi yanzalong, I am not sure where your MacDonalds is, but just to let you know that not all MacDonalds are attached to another building or in a mall setting...There are plenty of franchises here the US that are stand along buildings....

good day to you desertrose16, with reference to your main topic, indeed, there are people like that. as in they don't even care at all to what others can get from the mess that they did. hence they are not thinking, what if they are the ones who is next in line to use the bathroom, for sure, they will feel irritated for the mess that have done by the first user. in relation to this, we cannot really blame the McDonalds personnel if they require people to do the purchase before they can use the facility inside the store.

Public bathrooms do often seem like a scene of where people really do not have a whole lot of respect for. Then again, there are just going to be a lot of times where public restrooms are not going to be the best kept up places in the entire world. But that does seem a bit much, because someone had to throw all of those things on the floor. Would you go into someone's house and do such things? Well some might given what I've seen...but just think about that. That's why a lot of people, myself included, don't like to use public restrooms, because they tend to not be the best kept up and they are rather tended to have whatever all over the place, who knows what thrown on the floor. Very sad. Very very sad.

Hi desertrose, what you discovered in the bathroom is happening at bathroom everywhere...there are some real disgusting and nasty people in this world and being its not their bathroom they just don't really care...Not all people but there are lot of "I don't care ' people in this world..... I don't know if they should have someone doing bathroom patrol but I do think it is up to the establishment to keep the bathroom cleam,, Some one at the establishment has to be assigned to keeping the bathroom clean..not the cashier or the cook but some one to do maintence at the establishment...what happens if a soda or coffee is spilled in the floor, so they just leave it there?, and comment about how nasty people are... They are totally aware that the bathroom is opened to the public and it needs to be throughout the day..Some of those places just don't assign anyone to be responsible for checking the bathroom during the course of the day, only at closing time... Now that wrong...it should be checked through the day.. You can believe that the trashed bathroom was not trashed by only one person...and you said it was morning, it may not have even been cleaned from the night before...It was morning......

I totally agree with you that the business's have a right to make rules for their bathrooms. I mean if something gets broken or the bathrooms have to be closed then the business will have to pay for those repairs, someone to clean them up. So in return the business is losing money. That will only cost the customers more because, they are having to put more money out for things like that. I just dont understand why people have to be so disrespectful towards things and people.

This is one reason why we cannot blame those food chains from locking their bathrooms. Yes, they have their rights to locked and keep their facilities clean for their avid customers and not for everyone who wants to use the bathroom. Thu, there's certain consideration- but with incidents like this, the owner will surely get mad and will keep the rules more strict then.

I disagree, I feel bad for the homeless who need to wash up in there. How would you feel if you had no home to bathe in or wash your hair in? What if you had to do all of that in a public restroom? How would you feel? I think the last thing on their minds is how they leave the bathroom. When you're in a situation like that, you have more serious things to worry about. I pray for them.
