Mylotters, we as women I think are born to be caregivers...from the time we are growing up with our siblings we learn what its like to be a caregiver...WE are always looking after someone, siblings, children spouses, pets, older parents...but when do we take the time for' ourselves... Not very often if at all, because we have that timex addiction, take a licking and keep on ticking... We definately need to start looking after ourselves, after all if we don't who is going to be around to look after everyone else.. When are you going to start...,,,Lets start doing something for us... So what are you going to do for yourself...ME...I am going on vacation....

Yes, we women do give care to others. We take a moment here and there for ourselves. I held down a full time job, had guardianship of a troubled child, did all the housework and cooking, etc. The job was complex, the child became abusive and I ended up getting sick. Sick emotianally. I took a early retirement and went on medical benefits. I have been diagnosed with severe depression with panic attacks. I think we all come to our end point where we can't do it anymore. We do need time for ourselves AND we don't have to do it ALL.

hi celtic just thinking I used to get so upset when someone here asked me if I needed help but after that bad fall I sort of realized it's okay to ask for help if you really need it.Sometimes my stupid walker gets stuck in the front doors and I need three hands to open the door and also push the darned walker. I used to have panic attacks but got help from a psychologist who gave me the keys to stop them.I worked all my life as a nurses aide and really loved it.

I love to go down to the beach and just stroll watching the tide and the boats and seals and at times pelicans. It calms me and relaxes me so much. I live only six miles from Newport B each in Ca.

I need to do this. However, I have to make the money for our bills and I am locked in to a job for now. It is a job that requires me to take care of even more people. I would love to go back to being at home. I would be going to the YMCA, and getting more sleep, etc. You are right, caregivers, especially women care givers are guilty of neglecting themselves most of the time.

I dont do much just for myself. I ususally always try to include my family or boyfriend. I would like to have a massage but dont think that is going to be happening anytime soon as the money isnt coming in the good at the moment. Of course i would like time to myself but i dont like shopping by myself so i always try to have someone come with me unless im going shopping not at the mall. Well of course when i do shop by myself i barely ever buy anything for myself and am always looking for stuff for the boyfriend and try to buy him things so he doesnt always look bad or anything too.

Sometimes if thats all we have learned from many years of doing so it gets to be hard to take care of ourselves, but as important as it is, we should. I have been known to neglect my own needs for the sake of others and half of that comes from being treated like I don't matter as much by various people in my life. I'm always the one who is sensitive more than others, can't sleep at night when there's been an argument, etc when the other ones involved have no problems with any of that. It's not very healthy I know, but can't seem to break it. I'm glad you can go on vacation to get away from it all, you sound like you so desparately need it. I wish you all the best and congrats on finally getting to do something for you!

Oh how true this is. As a mother of three (five if you count my two beautiful German Shepherds), women tend to put everyone and everything above themselves. I am at the point now where at least I take the time during the day to do something for myself. I want to lose weight so I have begun exercising. This, for me, is major. I'm a Twi-Head, so I plan on spending the day tomorrow wrapped ina blanket on my couch, watching Breaking Dawn Part 1. Yeah, I know,a little corny:)) But it's all about what makes you happy and keeps you feeling fulfilled.

hi bjc66bjc me I am going to make an appt to see my doctor for the half hour physical check uP i was supposed to do in December. but I was ill most of dec and January and my doctor was on vacation so had to see one of his colleagues. now I must do what should have been done in Dec and also get my diabetic check up at the same time.' This is my sticking point, keeping my doctor's appt. as a diabetic I am supposed to see my dr. every three months and get blood work done every three months. I help my roomie to get her money,to keep her doctor appts but I put off seeing a doc til I got so sick I was coughing up blood so I did see his colleagues and got antibiotics and he told me I had bronchitis and a touch of walking pneumonia so good thing I went.He told me if I had waited much longer I would have been hospitalized so no I did not want that. so now I will do this for me. I feel I need to watch over my roomie she has Alzehemirs and forgets things so I am her memory helper. but she will have to fend for herself while I go to my doctor . really a diabetic should work with her doctor always. Have a great vacation and really do stuff just for you. hugs from hatley[em

There are few things that I really do for myself. I do spend time on mylot, which is something that I do for myself, although I do it also so that I can earn a few bucks to help pay some bills, or something. Sometimes, I will go out for a walk or something, because I need to get out of the house. But I can't say that I do a whole lot for myself, and it doesn't really happen often. For the most part, what I do is for my husband and our daughter.
