My cat is maybe a compulsive over-eater?

My (fat) cat is ALWAYS eating. ALWAYS! Every time I see her, she is lingering by the food dish. She is totally overweight, too. I have tried controlling how much she eats - by only feeding her a cup a day - but if I do that for that cat - I have to do it for my other cat, too, who is not a compulsive over-eater. So my fat cat (Missy) will just proceed to eat my little cat's food in addition to her own. Plus, with my work schedule and my dad's, we really don't spend a lot of time at home and so it's hard to stick to a regular schedule of feeding the cats. That's why we generally just keep the dishes stocked and hope they eat until they are satiated, and that's it. I don't know if any of that makes sense, but my Missy is just constantly eating. I just don't know what to do about it! It can't be good for her!!!

Haha! I love that name too, Monoxide, and Ox for short. Too funny. I hope he can loose some of that baby fat eventually.

I am wondering how you manage to deal with your pet cats. Aren't they sleazy? I mean they poo and pee at will. I used to cats when I was a kid. It was my grandma who kept them.

They should all use the litter box and not poo and pee all over, unless they are ill, or have some other issue such as a new cat in the house, etc.

Never leave cat food out for your cats. In the wild cats not only get much more exercise but they also never eat everyday. It's best to feed once a day and if your big cat steals from the small one feed in different rooms. Once a cat gets fat it become lazy and with no exercise it just gets fatter. Some cats seem to get fat and others never do. Just like people we all are different.

I have heard twice a day is more efficient, I wouldn't limit the food to once a day, I could never live with myself, I'd feel like I was starving the poor animal. I have heard from animal experts twice a day is sufficient enough, although mine eats anytime all day too ( like every few hours).

I have an overwight cat as well, but it's not like I have made her that way. Its my mom who usually has the idea to overfeed her, and whenever she sees her she thinks she always has to have food at that time and place. I told her many times, she just ate! But she worries that she's still hungry. I swear some cats do not have the ability inside of them that tells them they are full if they just ate ( not always though), or perhaps she is already too far gone that she won't abide by a diet. I gave up awhile ago cause everyone in my family does what they want and never listen to me.

If you over-eater is fat, maybe it can't jump high, as a younger cat. Keep the food for the other cat on a higher place. Let it know the food is there. Feed the over-eater on the floor, but limit the food gradually. I had to do that for my two cats. It work well. They adjusted to it, all was well.

My boyfriend has a cat, and she is fat and now cannot walk much because of her weight. So her vet told him that she need a diet. It is really bad for a cat to be so fat. MISSY NEED TO DIET FOR HER OWN GOOD. :)
