Recently two bank robberies took place in the outskirts of Chennai. Police could make out a sketch of the thieves by showing it to the staff of the first bank which was robbed and a picture was exhibited, asking for clues. A person from Velachery, chennai informed the police and the police resorted to hunting them. The culprits shot at the police and police killed the five people in the encounter. a report: http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/article2922641.ece?homepage=true Why robberies take place? People know that they will be caught and still why do they indulge in robberies? Encounter is the best solution -- at least other thieves may be thinking twice before attempting again another robbery.

No body born as thief or robbers as scoiety force a person to do crime one became so and start doing it. There are many crimes which people are doing in front and all of us know but can't caught but poor robbers they are not politicians who can save them self. I didn't blame on those robber's but it the society who throw the food to dustbin but can't give the same to poor people. What these people will do. There is emense population in INDIA and most of the people are poor and even youg people they get educatio but didn't get job then what shall they do. This world is what you must have to snacth from other if they can't give. Fighting for living is main motive here. Inquality in INDIA where most of the poeple are poor and few people who are rich geting ricjher and poorere geting poorer. There many scams etc that politicians do but they didn't care about food and jobs etc for the public. How can one live without fighting. You say that robber's know that they will get caught hahahha i laugh on it. Those poeple either didn't told to police that's why they get fired if they would have all money would have been distributed hahhah

rajeev - yes. starting of our life itself is not in our hands. it is thrust upon us. some are born rich some are born poor. some have all the problems. some have all the defects. But for keeping balance in society we have to accept from some place and start on. We should not questions to given set up. proceed from there and try to earn money in lawful ways. When one wants quick money, it comes but also goes quickly --probably along with happiness and life.

I too read a bit about the news Ravisivan. But, should they have been killed like that? They were only robbers and not murderers. Or am I wrong? I am not sure of the facts. But the fact that these 35 year old people were killed brought a twinge in a corner of my heart.

kalav -- they resorted to robbery similar to one going to office for work. they robbed within a month two banks. Luckily they did not harm any bank staff. This sort of an encounter will make others think twice before launching on attacks like this. I am in favour of such encounters for action against robbers, murderers, rowdies taking money as profession.

I am sure it is not difficult to figure out why bank robbers want to rob a bank, even though they may stand a chance get arrested later, the incentive and all those $$$ always override the fear they will get caught. It make them feel good spending other people $$ without having to work for it, there are always some one with this type of mentality living in our society that like to feed on other people hard work to get rich.

yes. it is like a one way traffic road-- occasionally I go through that place with an idea no policeman will catch us. same thing applies here also. they feel that they can get away with it.

lampar: yes I think 2% of any society will be having such people who are greedy and who wants things to happen quickly. they form groups and take up such work. In this case the fellow committed one robbery and if they had left the State or local city then they would not have got caught. But they did another one and that brought them on to lime light and the result that followed. Normally we fear to do wrong things once or twice. From the third time we do not feel guilty in doing wrong things.

Everybody thinks that it can't happen to them. They think they are smarter than everyone else.

I can follow what you say. In case we are on the spot and we are also affected by encounter then our family will be in distress. Nowadays it is better to go to the places with which you are familiar and not go to new places.

Thirst for getting money that you have not worked for. It is good thing that they were caught by the police.

Mashnn: Yes. it is the thirst for more and more money that makes people do wrong things. These people were caught not immediately after their succeeding in four or five robberies. any how it is a lesson for such culprits that police will resort to encounter if necessary.

I am sure it is no hard for anyone to figure out why robbery take place in our society, it is quite obvious bank robbers have their personal reason and plenty of incentive to do so even though the chance of getting arrested is present.

lampar : The chance for getting huge money at one stroke and desire to spend freely after that makes them do robbery. Such a trend should be checked by giving extreme punishment like the encounter that was resorted to today. opinions may differ.

I wonder what their compulsions were.. Honestly, we are so overpopulated and so short of police force that people are bound to take chances. So first step should be to bring down population may be..

Growing population cannot be brought down suddenly. family planning is a way to slowly get over this crisis. Police force should strengthened to match the level of criminals and they should be given powers to take action immediately.

Hi ravisivan: There are so many reasons why robberies may take place. Many answers are correct. One of them is the lack of opportunities, bad economy, etc. But also people losing their values and bad politics against insecurity are reasons why these situations happen. ALVARO

yes. this seems to be one way of looking at the issue. Problems in economy --lack of job opportunities. degradation of personal value system and family value system. great. + desire to make quick money for wrong deeds.
