Higher salary bigger spending requirement????

I think its quite usual hearing people complain about their salary but sometimes i don't quite get it why other people who even have higher salary than i do (maybe twice or thrice my salary) still complain about their salary. Well in my case, with my little salary i still try my best to live within my means. I heard from other people that although they have bigger salary their cost of living also increases because they tend to buy lots of uncecessary things and they usually try to have a much more expensive way of lifestyle. What can you say about this? Why do you think that people who have bigger salary still complain about their salary? Do you also complain about your salary? Thanks for sharing guys.

No, I do not complain about my salary, I complain about my hours. In general, however, the more people make, the more they spend. Some careers require the appearance of wealth to maintain the image of the job. So with higher income some people are required to spend more. For others it is the fact that the higher the income the more extravagant they feel that they can be.

I have a friend from Europe, and he has big salary but he still complaining about it. His reason was, living in there is expensive, the things, the food, all is expensive. lol

Along with bigger salaries come bigger debts and a more expensive lifestyle. I know we all want to keep up with the big spenders but sadly we have to all live within our means to survive.

'Keeping up with the Joneses' is a saying that most people follow.Everybody wants to have what his neighbour possesses and maybe even more.It gives him a false feeling of pride and a superiorit complex.Everyone wants to have te latest cell phone, car,clothes,shoes,bike etc so that he can show off to others.There is no end to demands and hence such persons feel that their earnings are not enough for them and they always complain that they are short. A wise person who lives a disciplined life will never have this problem because he only buys what he needs and not what he wants.Therefore his expenses are minimum and he is actually able to save and will never need to ask anybody`s help.

I experienced both sides. When I was a stylist for a magazine, I was paid a pretty good salary and I also get the perks of being a stylist like getting free clothes, accessories and stuff. When I was still in a freelance stylist I did not make much money because clients tend to pay you based on your portfolio and the people you represent and who you know so back then I did not know a lot of people. When I was still in freelance, my salary was manageable. There were times that I could not save any amount though because the money was tight. When I worked in a magazine company I did notice that my spending increased. I guess its human nature to spend more if you have more. I personally spent majority of my money with traveling and food not clothes or stuff like that.

What you observed is indeed true. When I was new working, I used to receive lesser salary. Nonetheless, despite being so, I was able to get through life. I even gave my pay then to my mother who managed my finances. As time passes, as my position in the corporate world accelerates along with my pay, I am finding myself always short of cash and could not meet both ends meet. Then, I detested obtaining loan from my acquaintances and even getting credit card, but, now I find them necessities in order to have adequate funding. Sometimes I blame it on the economic situation in the Philippines. Other times, I blame it on my impulsion to buy. Currently, I am trying to put these into practice: "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. Yes that's true the more money you have the more expense you have. Because you have money to spent more than usual. You have courage to spent money because you really have a money a salary to pay for your expenses. But If you have enough money for your daily needs you will not have the courage to spent a lot because you know someday it's a big problem in your part where will you find money to pay.

I ofetn hear people complain about their SSI. They say they are on a fixed income. Im still out there working but i earn less then those fixed incomes. Most the time i have to go out and donate plasma just to cover my living expenses. I dont have many expenses. Rent, electric, cell phone and internet. All necessary. Thank Jah for foodstamps.

Every one say the more you earn the more you spend...and this is probably what most people do...to me if I work extra I tend to save that extra money! I have a budget and stick to it...well I have to I have no choice! I see many people who complain about not having money to pay their bills and yet they have dinner out twice a week! really at the end of the day is a question of choice and priorities I have a friend who did not have a washing machine for month because[according to her she could not afford it}and yet in all that time she when for a holiday, rented an apartment[twice] in the City to celebrate her friends birthday! and guess who was doing her washing? her mum and yes she gave her some money here and there...but what I mean is she could afford the washing machine any time...but yet she was using her money to have fun instead! at the end of the day I don't have a salary I Am on a pension so I have no choice but to live withing my means.

The problem we are facing is that when we get higher salary, we always want more to buy. And when salary rise has been announced by government, it seems all prices also started to rise. It seems as though there is a connection between the announcement on the salary and the increase of the price.

That's right, my friend. The bigger you get the bigger also you spend. This is common that is why we need to compensate everything of these days due to such practical circumstances...

Since I got a new job at double the salary, I have only caught myself complaining once or twice. I really am grateful for the extra income. We are using part of the extra income every month to pay down our mortgage principal and the rest we are putting into savings.

It's because the higher the salary a man gets, the higher his purchasing power becomes. Then, they got a high amount of money, so they tend to spend it on luxurious stuff. If the salary get's too little to handle all of it, then they will complain.

I think that as you said people who have a higher salary lean towards a more expensive lifestyle and have more spending needs as they buy things that they could probably live without but because they have extra money and they think they can afford it they buy more or spend more on things. However, people who have less salaray know they can't afford extra things so they try to manage with what they have. I don't complain about my salary

If a man was earning fifty thousand pounds a year from 2001 until 2008 he would have during that time spent loads of money. His clothes would have been pricey. He would have had an expensive looking car. He might have a big mortgage where he is living. If due to the recession he got made redundant he would think the job seekers allowance money is like peanuts. He would have trouble keeping up the payments on his mortgage. He would hate going to the job center and seeing jobs paying the low wages of just five pounds per hour. He might have to sell his house and down size moving into a cheaper home. If he got a new job paying seventeen thousand pounds a year he would have to act in a thrifty way spending far less than he used to. People with a big salary complain they don't earn enough. I feel teachers should be paid more.

That's exactly what happened. The higher salary, the increase of lifestyle follows. I am not saying this happens to everyone, but most I guess. Taking myself as an example. Before I had my car, I don't have problem with the fuel, maintenance and insurances. But now that I owned a car,extra expenses follows- although I can say, there is a big advantage for having your own vehicle also.

I think that a moderate salary really does keep people rather humble. Actually those who really only make about the middle of the road salary are more likely to really look forward to the future. Where those who do tend to make a lot of money are going to be all like, SPEND SPEND SPEND SPEND, and thus they aren't going to save money for the future. So yeah, a bigger salary might seem good in principle but having the resources to purchase way too many things that they do not need. Granted I'm all for having a luxury every now and again, don't get me wrong but some people tend to go over the top and over the edge and thus rather overboard with their spending. And many people who formally have high salaries are in a stew should they ever lose their jobs.

I have actually attended a seminar and it taught us that spending within our means is not enough. And that we should spend below our means. It taught us to save at least 20% of our earnings and the remaining portion should be the only amount that should be available for spending. Easier said than done, right? I think the problem with us is we tend to proportionate our expenditures with our income. Like, when you are not earning that much, you may tend to ride on buses where fare is not that high. But when you are earning that much, you may opt to drive your own car or ride a taxi where fare is higher compared to the other public transport.

i don't complain about my salary before because it was just what i expected it would be when i applied for the job and i only had to provide for myself. well those who complain and earn more most probably are working hard for a good reason and the most reasonable one is they want the best for their family (that's if they have one of their own or helping out their parents). who doesn't want the best quality? and for sure it comes with a price. on the other hand if you're single you'd most probably be complaining because you want more for yourself which is natural because no one would ever feel contented. i think this was in my economics class before that there would always be the urge to gain something new, better quality and more than others have.

having satisfaction with speciic salary is really depended on each personal perspective. im sute that somone whose salary is four times than yours, won't get along with your salary twice, even if your salary is very high. the reason for this might be the one you mentioned, but i think that behavior with money is a habit that is acquired since each childhood. i believe that grown up whose parents were rich will have more trouble to get along with a small salary than someone whose parents were poor.
