Have a look around your area and see if there are any sort of courses you can take. Some are more in depth but there are also basic courses that are offered. Maybe once you get the general idea, you can span off on your own and figure out all the tricks of the trades. Good luck and enjoy!

No problem! If it is something that is a passion you will be able to get out there and expand your learning! Once you do some learning I think the rest just comes from experience and trial and error :-)

Koala - Koala, photo taken at Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Australia February 2012
I love photography as well and would like to do a course one day on how to maximise the use of my camera, at the moment I spend a lot of time at the zoo here in Melbourne taking photos, I hope you achieve your dream one day, its a good interest to have.

Practice makes perfection. Take as many photos as you can, and you'll see that they are getting better. Also, use internet, and look at other people photos, and try to find which camera settings they used for their photos, and try to do it yourself. Taking course is great, but if you don't have time or money, internet and books could help a lot. Maybe you should join some online photographers community, post your photos, and ask people for comments and suggestions. I can recommend deviantart.com It's a great site, it's completely free to use and people are helpful. There are also many tutorials you can use.

I would suggest that you give your self an assigment and then do it. Some of the trick I use to sharpen my skills is to select a topic and then shoot and keep shooting until I get some great photos. I shoot a lot os sport action photos and was doing ok. I read and studied what some professionals were doing. One of the articles suggested that you focus on the person face. By doing that I got some great shots and caught the feeling of the athlete. People like the photos more now that they can see the face. Read what others have to say and study their work to see what they are doing. Good luck.
