Having a great manager on the job makes working for that company easier

March 9, 2012 9:53pm CST
Even though the job doesn't pay well my manager is one of the best I've ever had. She and I have respect for each other and that means a lot when working at any job! More and more managers and supervisors should give the respect they are looking for and maybe they'll see it in return. What's your thoughts?

i agree with you. most people who have been promoted to become managers and supervisors should realized that their skills got them to the position but they need to understand how to become the boss that everyone would respect. common things we see are the ones who once they were given a chance to lead, would tend to just ask people around to do things or work things out for them and they are being unreasonable. i think being a manager or a supervisor takes more than skills technically, but you also have to have people skills, and how people are managed.

i definitely agree. my job is kind of like that too. the pay is terrible, but the managers are nice & respectful to the employees. as long as we are respectful to them, they return the respect... although on rare occasion, i have seen them treat some of the employees like children. so yes, it definitely helps to have respectful managers... and yet, if they want to keep their employees, they need to pay at least a living wage. :)

You are correct. I am a Manager and treat my employees with respect. I am fair and honest. This is why people want to work for me. I see others rule like dictators and that is not good.

yes, that true. a happy employees could finish his task earlier. a boss who is fair and kind could make his employees happy and they could inspire and become more productive. a great manager know to delegate responsibilities from each employees and treat them a an asset of the company and not as a liability. the employees would really work hard, honest and could develop more loyalty. thus, giving more quality products to sale and attract clients to buy there products.

Having a harmonious relationship with your Manager is such a good indicator that you really liked your jobs. I worked in company before, There some Supervisor and Manager who are great and some are not. I think it all depends on us on how we see our Superiors. I used to hate my Immediate supervisor before her looks is different from what I've thought. I learned a lot from her.

your one of the lucky few.. good for you my friend. It's very rare now for employees to find a great managers. Most managers are so impatient and very always have bad temper. And also i think that a good manager also appreciates the good things that his/her employees did and at the same time, if the employees did something wrong, they should teach them or talk to them in a nice way.

I had a chat with one of my friends last night and he told me how horrible he feels at the moment and how furious he was at his manager. He explained to me before how his manager was always jealous of him because he got into the job easy because the owner of the establishment was a family friend and so he is given a hard time by this manager. I know for a fact that my friend deserves his spot because I know where he graduated in a course highly related to his current job and he is very hardworking. Last night he told me how his manager again scolded him for something which I think is again unfair. I know it's also unfair to be siding just my friend but judging the given situation, I know that my friend was on the right side. I think I will never be able to stand managers like those.

On my personal experience, I work with enthusiasm if my boss understand & respect me as a person. If I have a compassionate boss, I seldom do things that would disappoint him because I have high regards on him.

i will agree with you. Having a good leader is awesome. A true leader encourage his people to do better and an inspiration to all his subordinates. Good leader produces good leaders too. You are lucky to have a good leader.

Having a good boss is awesome, like you've said, even the salary is not that much but with a boss like yours makes you stay in the company. Furthermore, having her as your boss/leader could mold you into another leader. They said that the true measure of a good leader is when he/she produces another leader. As a boss, if you respect your personnel under your responsibility, they will respect you in return. You are staying at your company most probaby because of your boss. Some say, "People stays/leaves in their job because of people."

Yeah right. My boss and I has good work relationship. But there still some co workers that really irritates me and sometimes annoyed me in terms of delaying some works in my parts due to lack of concentrations on work due to internet surfing.

i love managers who are young like my age. They are more sensible, open to innovation and considerate. That helps lessen attrition in a company if the manager has good virtues.

I wish more companies took that approach to management then there would not be so much bullying in the work place. People would enjoy their work more and not so many resignations.

My manager is horrible at communication and positive feedback. She only talks to us when we do something wrong. She rarely lets us know of new policy changes and her office door is rarely open for us to speak with her. I wish she communicated better. I think its important for a company to run smoothly. Respect is also very important and we all feel she lacks it. You are lucky to have a manger who listens to you and respects you. I makes work a much nicer place to be! Also having a manager treat you well makes you want to work even harder!
