Sealdah is one of the busiest railway station. From dawn to midnight it is always crowded. Commuters from all places turn the station into an ocean of human heads during the office time. The passengers, porters, hawkers, vendors, rush to and fro. The platforms seem narrow for so many. A kind of fighting goes on between the passengers who are getting down and those who are getting up. Outside the platform there are long queues for tickets at each ticket-window. On sundays and holidays the rows become endless. The display board shows the name of the next train to leave a particular platform. The passengers read the board and rush to the platform. Announcements are made through the microphone from time to time regarding the arrival and departure of trains. Reservation is a tough problem nowadays. Advance booking is also a complicated affair. For night journeys and long-distance travels reservation is a must. The Enquiry Counter is always crammed with people. The telephone booths also are occupied all the hours. Weather it is day or night, the station is always crowded. It seems Sealdah station never goes to sleep, it is always awake and busy.

Traveling become really tough when there is a big rush. I am an one who loves and enjoy traveling but how can a one like me can do it when there is heavy rush I find it is very important to reduce the crowd but the thing is that, what will be the remedy to control it

I live near London, in the UK and at the peak times the train stations get extremely busy and get over-crowded very quickly with people coming and going to work (rush-hour) as well as tourists visiting our great city. We have the Summer Olympics here this month and we have a lot of people coming into London so it will be even more packed. The trains themselves get really packed and it's like sardines inside everyone being squashed together. Not very nice when the temperatures are high! Getting all sweaty and irritable. Thank you for telling us about Sealdah.
