Is it really ok to move to a new department in a company or much better to resign and find a job to a new company? Either way, this is hard to do. You lose all the vested time, tenure, friendships and alot more. But what if is hard for you to go to the office everyday? As if your not complete, your looking for something you cannot see in your current work. What is the best way to assess your feeling and desire? Am i just tired, burned out? or really need to look for a new job for me to feel complete? Can't decide!

I think it depends on whether you still want to work in the same industry you're currently in. Although interdepartmental transfers may involve a totally different kind of work for you, like say from marketing, you want to transfer to human resource, if the reason why your drive is waning is because you're not interested anymore in the industry you work, then I don't think just moving to a new department could re-motivate you, and it's better for you to resign. On the other hand, if it's only the current type of work you're doing which is burning you out, an interdepartmental transfer is ideal since you still keep your tenure, your friends and the other things you might lose if you resign. Plus the challenges of the new work you're gonna be doing could fill in some of those incompleteness that you feel.

I agree with you beamer, Whats keeping me to stay in the company is the tenure and friends i have and their presence might compensate what ever challenges i will face in my new job. Will probably take your advise, Will just wait for the internal hiring in the company hopefully soon :) Thank you

The best way to assess your feeling is to try doing things beyond your work responsibilities and engagage yourself in learning other tasks or even expertise. You can help yourself feel excited everytime you go to work. The common thing that happens to people who are working in the company for so many years now is the feeling of being burned out, tired of doing the same routinary activities. That is exactly what you are experiencing now. If after you tried my above suggestion and you still feel the same then maybe you need a total change, a new job.

If I were you, unless I am moved to a department where I am not best, I won't mind moving to that department as long as the pay is sufficient. In my early days of work, I was frequently moved to various department. (Not at my fault, there were some kind of requests from the Department heads.) I was moved from station to station even. (and was paid the transit charges) These were helpful when I was handed over with some responsibilities later. (Moreover, I had friends wherever I worked. So if I need anything to be done at that station, it's convenient to ask my friends for help now.) However, it's your decision.

Sometimes you can find a better company to work for. Only you have that choice. Friends and family can't help with that decision. You're talking about your success! Get out there and look. Make sure people can find your resume'. If you are contacted by another company tell them you are doing are looking for a possible better arrangement. Sign on bonuses are getting bigger for skilled personnel. That would take the place of vested time. Do the hunt first.
