Actually, downloading music for free is piracy and not. free meaning at no cost. so open to all.I think it is not piracy if it is done privately between families and friends or as long as you would not distribute it.and its piracy, well if your in the music maker's shoe thyen its yes, because they used there efforts for making one . . For you guys, What is your opinion in downloading music for free?

I consider i as piracy but as you said, if it is just for privacy, maybe not really. But when you sell it like pirated dvds and cds, it becomes piracy. But still, it is stealing and not giving credit to the singers if we just downland them..

I believe that as long as you don't sell or sample artist's music, it should be legal to download it for free. Artists are wealthy, even with all the illegal downloading that happens. Most artists don't just make money from selling CD's. They're usually involved in more activities that make them billions of dollars. If they want to share their music with the world, why not offer it for free, especially to those who can't afford to spend $10 on an album or $1 per song. It adds up quick, especially if you like music. Remember back in the day when you'd sit in front of the radio and record your favorite songs on a cassette tape when they came on? Was that considered stealing? We were making a copy for free. Its kind of the same thing. Also, if you like an artist, and don't have to spend all of your money on their album, you'll probably have more money to be able to actually see them in live. Then the artist would still make money off their fans. I think downloading should be free and legal in most cases.

I think it depends on the source of where the music came from and if the artist intended on it to be free. If the artist decides to distribute their music for free, then there is nothing wrong in my opinion. But if it is music that is commercially sold, and you got it for free, then that is theft. For example, there is a website that I go to where one can download rap mixtapes for free, and most of the time, it is indicated that the artist themselves put it out there. Conversely, I think those who are profitting off of something that was intended for free is stealing as well.
