Who is responsible for India's weak bowling?

Despite India reaching top of Test rankings, winning two world titles in shorter formats: T20 and ODIs, one big problem that continues to plague Indian cricket is its ever weak bowling lineup. On recent tours of England and Australia our bowling got exposed big time, even in just concluded Asia Cup, Bangla Tigers made mince meat of our weak bowling and chased down seemingly formidable total of 290 plus. Is it the selection woes, lack of interest in the public in becoming bowlers, lack of incentives/proper guidance for bowlers, lack of bowling heroes or simply pathetic show by our bowlers over long periods of time? Do share your views. Thanks.

I would say its the Selectors. Selectors are the main reason for weak bowling of India. Selectors are very much biased.. Indian selectors have no vision in bowling, they consider bowling as a secondary category in cricket. Selectors are ready to make good back up for batting, but not trying to find good back up in Bowling. Bowlers are tested and tried and left.. not giving chance consistently, what was the reason to rest umesh yadav??is this the way to build up a young bowler? Bowling is also very much important in cricket, and selectors should keep it in mind. If a bowler bats well and bowls slightly below par, then selectors will go behind him, not try to take a 100% good bowler. If theya re unable to find some good penetrating bowler from 120 crore Indians, its very sad and feel sorry for their Bad job.

Yes, there was no need to rest a young bowler like Umesh, he was performing well. Young bowlers like him should be given more and more chance.... I think Zaheer and Umesh should have included in the squad. Its a small tour with maximum of 4 matches for a team. Also India doesn't had any matches in the near time rather than the IPL.

ya thats right, when Raina and Rohit is given lots of chances why not for Yadav and aaron?? The attitude of selectors should change, and as others said here, coaching is the other problem..

The main reason for the weak show of the bowlers is that they do not have a good bowling coach who can tell them which areas they can workout well. The selectors are also responsible for this as they did not picked umesh yadav for the asia cup as he performed well in the australian tour. They have also forgot one fast bowler called as varun aaron who can bowl regularly at 145km/hr. The selectors had also not given chance to Harbhajan as he could have been tried in asia cup as he is one of the leading wicket takers and with the absence of Zaheer they needed a good bowler to back them.As he have just like that have not taken 400 plus wickets.

You make a valid point my friend. Teams like England and Australia have coaches for all specialization: batting coach, fast bowling coach, spin bowling coach, fielding coach, main team coach and so on. Coming to our Cricket Board, the richest in the world, let alone hiring coaches in the area we traditionally been weak that's our bowling. They just seem to be filling up posts for the sake of it, showing no willingness to spend more to hire qualified coaches and that too for both: fast and spin bowling. Venky was at least trying to helper medium fast bowlers bowl better lengths and variety. But few team losses meant he was unceremoniously sacked without explanation along with Robin Singh. And, then Eric Simmons who came on Gary's recommendation, with no real credentials, a lightweight spinning coach, didn't really help on faster wickets of Australia & England, which was no surprise.

Whose else can be blamed for India's weak bowling recently, the players and their coach. They are becoming complacent and not willing to train hard enough to defeat other competitiors in the match. No one should ge tthe blame other than the above.

I think the BCCI and selectors doesn't have any interest in developing and making Indian bowling attack strong. From the old days, Indian bowling had been poor or just average, in very rare situations, Indian bowlers performs well. 290 should have been stopped by the bowlers, the bowlers goes out of their control in some situations... Selectors need to find some good bowlers rather than trying the same bowlers again and again.

I think we have kept a few cricketers for too long on the team leading to panic amongst the youngsters. Look at it like this. First five are batsmen, next three are not exactly devoid of batting skills, but they are not proefficient either, and the last two are the ones from whom we cant expect any scoring, remeber Chandrasekhar, Prasanna, and Bishan Singh Bedi? Anyway, what has happened is our senior batsmen have constantly remained on team, even when they've failed, just because they had style or past record. In the process the number of limited slots for batsmen and bowlers increases the competition. Once the bowler or batsman is in team, there is pressure on him or her to perform. How can we expect good performance from a person who has not faced international scenario, when we let go of seniors rather mildly? Beats me.. even bowlers face similar predicament.

Yes.India has a weak bowling lineup because there aren't any good bowlers.Even if they are bowling sometimes they are not consistent in length and line too... and also india's bowling line-up is mostly depended upon zaheer khan and harbajan.now harbajan is out.. and also on good selection team for india.i think they may think that batting is more important than bowling!!

I think the players should be picked up for the team India. I think more new bowlers should be picked up who can pick wickets. I think the pool of the bowlers should be increased and hope good bowlers would come to team India.

Hello my friend banta78 Ji, This is nothing , but mere politics. Even today, for President's race. People are bargaining. If Sachin has declined the offar as a Rajya Sabha member for his authorised alloted Govt accomodation, people think, he must be planning future game. May God bless You and have a great

We cannot blame to anybody because the team know very well how they play. But winning and loosing is a part of life so no problem one time Indian wins World cup but now they loos the game.
