Hard to Get to Sleep

This past few days, I sleep so late. I would sleep at dawn already not knowing it is early in the morning while other people have aroused from bed. This is my situation when I got nothing to do and I just stay at home. Since the end of classes and up until now, I barely get to sleep. I would be really problematic when I found out that it is already very late and I am still up. Now, in order for me to sleep, I do weird things. One of these is I count backwards. Somehow it didn't work until I get tired. I just end up listening to music. Do you also do weird things for you to get to sleep? Share it to me for we don't know it will help a lot. Come and let's discuss it!

haha, it's normal to lose sleep at times, it happened to me as well. There are nights where i just couldn't sleep no matter how tired i'm. I would simply wake up, take a cold shower, if not i will head out for a short explosive run.. lol If i'm not able to sleep, it's pointless for me to stay in bed, i might as well get out of it, make myself tired before i head back onto it ^^ Some research says our bed is meant for sleeping, if we were to do some other stuff like reading, working etc, our body would be used to that state, resulting in our body unable to rest properly ^^

Oh, I didn't know that. I always do a lot of unrelated stuffs to my bed. It is because I am always in my bed. I like to stay in my comfortable bed. Whenever I am tired also, I still can't sleep. I already lost my sleepy feeling.

Do you have some pressure recently? which cause you can't get to sleep. if so, you can just keep in a relaxed mood firstly. besides, you can do some sports before sleeping, which can help you get into sleep easily. I ever try to do like this before and I found it is workable.

i have the same problem as you, these past few days i have had very little sleep so for me it was stress and a medication change needed.. so i got that and last night i slept like a baby and my husband let me sleep in this morning to get caught up so i will probably sleep in again tomorrow.. but here is some things that did help a little.. i save my favorite show to watch right before i go to bed in bed i have tv in my room.. so by the time that is off it last one hour .im sleepy becasue im relaxed.. so i think find things that relax you as i think being relaxed is what heps you to fall asleep.. nothing to worry about, try and leave all worries out of the bed.. the bed is for sleep.. and another that helped alot is being very active during the day.. like when i was a kid i was always running and jumping around and i wore myself out..and at night when my head hit the pillow i was asleep..so doing physical activities just to tire you out helps too.. dont sit on the computer all day long unles you have to,, go for walks in the evening and set a time to unwind for bed.. and get a schedule for bed and stick to it every night go to bed at the same time and try train your body to get sleepy at that time.. im having trouble with that one.its 335 am here now and im still up but only becasue i know i can sleep in tomorrow morning..so i wont miss any more sleep.. good luck..

Thank you my friend. You are right and I so agree with what you have said. Before when we were still young, we have so many actions done like playing with other kids and running some errands. But now no more. I just sit around either watch television or in front of the computer. Anyway, I will try those you have suggested to me. I will work out. I will do something productive. Thanks a lot my friend! Keep the fire burning!

Have you consulted a physician about your situation? There might be a problem, a health problem with you. If you consult a doctor, he/she would usually prescribe you some medication and give you some recommendation so you can deal properly with that problem. He/she will also explain to you what specific problem is causing that.

No, my friend. I didn't visit to a physician. I didn't bother myself doing that because I know it will always be my problem. I know it would be good idea if we try to consult it to really know the cause but somehow I am hesitant because of time constraint and lack of financial support. Don't worry, I will find ways to seek a physician's help. Happy Easter!

ins0omnia is quite an annyoing problem, yup. I'm kinda dealing with it for years, but its mild. However, I try to fall asleep by tucking my blanket in on all sides, os I feel warm, but sure that doesnt work in summer, so there's other 'method' I use. Its similar as for lucid dreaming if you're familiar with it. Its like you close your eyes and try to not think, your brain sends you signals like you have to blink, scratch yourself, move your leg etc. but you ignore all of those and eventually you WILL fall asleep along with your body. so so far thats how I get to sleep and of course cutting caffeine very late from my schedule as it stays in your sytem for about 8hrs making you fully alert.

Insomnia has been with me since I was young. It is indeed very annoying because you can't sleep though you really want to sleep. With your method, thanks for it. I also did the second method but I am very disturbed. I don't know why. When I try to clear my mind, I still think of something. I think of random things. Anyway, I don't drink much fluids with caffeine nowadays. Have a good day! Keep smiling dear friend.

You are just like me,cearn.Falling asleep is difficult for me too.I go to bed,but keep changing sides for long.Sleep remains elusive.Often I have sleepless nights. One thing I tell you, counting backwards is not a weird thing as you have dubbed it.It is done to divert our attention from our worries and problems. It does not work with you and it does not work with me too.So I read books on wildlife or detective novels or interesting articles on historical times and events. This helps me a lot to get relaxed and I fall asleep.

I guess the method which works for me in order to get to sleep is reading. I really didn't like reading before but now I find it interesting. It doesn't just helps me to sleep and other things, but I also learn something from it. Isn't it nice? Thanks for the response Else22! Keep smiling despite all odds!

Not being able to get to sleep is something that is a great problem to a lot of people, and the more you stress yourself out about it, the more it's going to be a problem so this is something that you should bear in mind. You should practice deep breathing and just lie in bed and think about things that make you happy, or things that you're looking forward to in the coming weeks or months. If you can't sleep, then don't lie in bed worrying about things. Get up and sit somewhere else, otherwise you will learn to associate your bedroom with not being able to sleep.

Most of the time, before I go to bed I think of many things like school stuffs, love life, my family and other people. It just pop out on my mind especially those problems. Yes, I will bear it mind my friend that everytime I feel stressed, I will take a deep breath and think positive. Usually if I can't bare anymore and I still think of it, I go to our balcony and feel the cold wind. So relaxing. Thank you very much.

Cearn25, i actually had that same problem couple of months ago. worst thing is, i cant sleep but i had to go to work at 8. so couple of times i sleep at work when im done with my task. but everything changed when i started drinking milk in the morning and putting eye creams for my dark circles. i dont know, but for some reason, these two makes me sleepy at 10 to 11 and that's the time that i would lay down to sleep. for the milk, probably, because of the l-tryptophan but as for the eye cream, i am clueless.. im just thankful im getting enough sleep now. and since then, i did not stop drinking milk. :)

I guess milk really has something that makes us sleep. And that is already proven. I also drink milk but not all the time. Now, I want to make sure I get to drink milk before sleeping. I have that habit before but now it is slowly fading. I think those eye creams that you put around your eyes would also be a factor why you get back to sleep easily. Good for you. Just maintain what you have started.

Sometime i can't sleep ,in which case i would not be so nervous ,instead, i let it be. i will think of something. And when i haven't something to think of i will just lie in bed calmly.I just lie, thinking of nothing. And in this kind of situation, i will go to sleep fast. And in fact if one does things according to some rules, he will not have some trouble in sleeping.

What are those rules my friend? It seems like you got no problem with your sleep. You deal with it nicely and calmly. That is good. I hope I am like your situation. Mine is so complicated. Thanks a lot for your response.

Dear friend, I must tell you that until recently, I had a similar problem to yours. In fact, at night I could never fall asleep before 3:00 AM. This also was reflected in the morning, where the fatigue, I pulled up out of bed sometime about noon. Fortunately now, only from this side, things went better for me. Now I go up to bed at 1:00 AM, and incredibly in the morning am already standing before 8.00 AM. Remember one thing though. I take the medicines because of my psychiatric problem. Such care, has recently undergone some changes, so I attribute to the reason of my change in the biological stage of sleep.

You are right. We have the same sleeping syndrome. But still for me, I wake up very late usually at noon . What I don't like waking up at noon is that it is very hot already. Unlike in the morning, I have much time to do like exercising, eating breakfast and many more. I don't take any medicine even if I have headache. Because sometimes I suffer headache maybe because of my lifestyle.

hi there, that happens to me from time to time but what i would do is read so i can fall asleep. sometimes when i pray before sleeping, i get so sleepy too right away. the weirdest i think is crying because that really is effective for me. like wwhen my boyfriend and i fight, i usually can't sleep, i can be up all day waiting for his call or message hehehehe but when i go to bed and start crying, the next thing i know is, i just woke up hahahah sometimes, i do it on purpose, like think about sad things and cry so i can sleep already hehehe.

Yeah, it is really weird my friend crying just in order for you to sleep. Haven't done that. When I have problems with my boyfriend, I deal with it seriously and with that, I can't sleep. I think of him all night long and bash him with many text messages and calls. Anyway, we are them same. I also read my favorite novels. I take time reading until I find myself already sleeping. Thanks for the time you have spared for responding.

umh, we sometime get the same problem. You should try to go to sleep at fixed time every night. Better you drink hot milk before going to sleep. You also can soak your foot in the warm water for a while in the evening. These methods will make you sleep easily. Hope you can get back a nice sleep tonight...^^

Thank you for those wonderful methods you have given me. I am sure it will do great to me in dealing with my problem. I am kind of in difficult situation in setting a fixed time for sleep because when I do, I can't sleep. Maybe I will just wait for the time that my body clock will back to normal. Soon.

I do not find it hard to sleep in my case, because I love sleeping. I often come from work tired and when I get to bed, minutes and I pass out. I suggest that do some physical stuffs during daytime instead of sitting in front of your computer. You can also do some exercise to keep yourself healthy. Jog a little during afternoon so your energy will get drained at night and your body would want to take a rest.

Counting doesn't work at all, I have tried it. Why don't you drink a warm glass of milk before bed, it works for me..also, clear your thoughts and just close your eyes, maybe an hour or two, you'd get to sleep. When I try to listen to music, I never get to sleep since i sing along with the song.

You are right. It doesn't work. I also sometimes drink milk before I go to bed but this past few days, I am becoming forgetful in drinking milk. I don't know why. When it comes to clearing the thoughts, I really do it but when my thoughts are empty, those things I am trying to get out are coming in over and over. I think the best thing I have ever done for me to get to sleep is to listen to music. Thanks my friend beautiful.

I usually turn to my right and sleep. When I see that i don't, I turn to the left and that does the trick. When I find it hard to sleep, I take a deep breath, let it out slowly in a joyful way and smile at the same time. Like I am very happy. It relaxes me a lot. It may sound very weird hahahaha, but it helps. You shouldn't make your mind work. Empty your thoughts.

I also do that trick! Turning to the right and if I am bored, I turn back to the left. I change positions at times until I already went to sleep. When changing positions, it doesn't just turning to the right and left. There also other things. I guess this tactic is work. It makes me tired. With your second trick, I haven't tried that, maybe now if I still have trouble of sleeping. Thanks for sharing my friend!

Try focusing on your breathing. Think of nothing else. It works for me. Wake up earlier in the morning, at 8 or 9 am. Do this for 3-4 days and you will be tired enough and you will go to bed early. I may not be easy but no pain no gain.

I will try this trick of your my friend. Though I am not good in focusing, I will try my best to do it. I am sometimes disturbed with my many thoughts I have in mind. I hope it works. Thanks a lot my dear.

Oh yes, I also read a book and watch a movie too. When it comes to reading a book, I read it in through my phone. I put those ebook in my phone so that in time that I am bored or feels like reading, it is ready. In watching movie, it is the very common thing I always do before I go to sleep. Sometimes I am alive and active especially when I like the movie. It turns out that I sleep together with my laptop. So we are the same my friend. Thanks beautiful Chicgale.

I am actually very afraid of the dark and creepy things so its impossible for me to do it and also I got no friends outside. Yes, I will follow your routine. I have a book about yoga and it feels good really to rejuvenate. Thanks a lot and may you have a happy day!

I count as well, but I start at 10,000 instead of one. It takes more time to think of the number 10,001, 10,002 than it would for me to race though 1,2,3...etc. Eventually, my mind gets bored and I fall asleep. my grandmother actually goes through the alphabet with different categories. For example, she would have the category of presidents, and then think of all the presidents with the first or last name that starts with the letter a....yeah hard. But she gets to sleep that way and also keeps her mind going as well ;)

I know, right? I think it works for others but some don't. They easily get bored just like me and want something not patterned. I am very happy that it actually worked for you my friend. Sounds great about how your grandmother did a good job in categorically playing the alphabet. That would really makes our mind get tired.
