Would you get your preschooler and ipod touch? My daughter isn't a preschooler just yet but no I wouldn't get her and ipod touch now or when she is a preschooler. She does use the one I have for myself for a few things to keep her entertainer here and there. Like there is a phone app for ipod touch because she thinks its a phone so when she wants to play with my cell phone I give the ipod to play with to pretend call people. But I don't think when she is preschooler to have one to just herself. To use mine is just fine till she is only enough to handle one on her own and by then there might be something different out. But as long as she couldn't do all kind of things all over the net or buy random things off of it and spend money that we might not have then its okay to have for certain things.

I will admit that I do let both of my children use the computer and I have let them use the computers in our home since they were about two years old (and they are both very competent on the computer now). However, I really don't think that there is any reason that they need to have an ipod touch of their own (even at five and nine years old). I can understand a Nintendo DS or something like that so that they can play videogames when we are on the go, but I really don't think that they need something where they can access the internet at any time.

With and Ipod touch you can't get internet just any where that is the iphone where you can get it on the go in the car and stuff. With and ipod touch you can turn off internet access. Now mine is one always with the internet when I'm at home because of free wifi but my daughter doesn't know how to use it and she doesn't have one to herself. I wouldn't get her one at her age probably not till she is a teen. I have those free apps that you can for little kids and put them on my ipod so she can learn her numbers, shapes, letters and other things for her age. Now she can't download anything because she doesn't know the password which you have to put in each time you want to put anything on the ipod. She pretends its a little phone and makes phone calls its a every annoying app but it entertains her for a short while. Its perfect for the car and stuff because it'll work any where since it doesn't need internet to work. You know how 14 month olds minds are they are always on the go doing soemthing else in like 15 seconds.

I think a preschooler can't use an ipod properly and of course she doesn't have to. An ipod is not a game also.

You would be surprised what a little kid can do and understand. My daughter when she was 4 months old would search her bed for my ipod to play music because I had and ipod shuffle then and it only plays music on it. Now she is 14 months old and knows how to work the ipod to a certain extend, I put 1 year old approved cames on it like coloring and a phone on it that does her numbers and colors and reads to her or she can read it herself. Now this is good for the car and around the house when she doesn't want to play with anything else. When its something educational on something its not bad. NO and ipod isn't a game but most all ipods have a lock on them as well as the fact any time you try to down load something you have to put your password in to get it down load other wise it won't work. I would give one to my child to have a lone mine to use with stuff I know is on it that is fine.

I got my baby granddaughter a small computer that had activities on it for her age. My grandson who is 8 I also got a computer for him age appropriate and he can learn all kinds of things to assist him in school. Now if you just want to have fun with your child and also give them play time on the computer, Try Webkinz. You buy the stuffed animal and there will be a little tag in plastic envelope. Open the card inside the envelope and there will be a code. you go on to webkinz.com and you can now adopt your virtual pet that looks like your stuffed animal you bought for you child. And it opens a whole world of learning for them in a safe protected environment. I have given these animals away to kids that I hope parents will teach them. I made an account and bought one to see how it was before starting to send to my grandchildren. They can garden, make food, dress their webkinz pet, make rooms for them in different themes. It really is an awesome site for kids from about 3 years on up. Much better than giving them all the expensive stuff they do not understand the expense if it were to drop or break. Any child I have given a webkinz to has always made me their friend because they know Granmama Marie will send them 3 gifts a day to open. And its sure a lot cheaper than an ipod touch. Webkinz range normally from 5.99 to 25.99 depending on the type you want to purchase. I find some of mine on ebay sometimes for only 99cents. Try a webkinz with a child they get a stuffie to hold and a virtual one to enjoy with games, food, gardening, and decorating rooms. Good Luck.

I wasn't looking for any suggestions for her to play with. She is only 14 months old and she isn't allowed any where near a computer besides here baby computer that has shapes and colors for her little age. I only let her use the ipod touch to make pretend phone calls because she thinks its a phone and you have to type in the password in order to buy something on mine. I would allow her to have her own any time soon let alone on the computer. I don't pay for any games that I get I rather not.

never! I want my kid(s) to experience what I experienced when I was young. I don't want them to grow up depending too much on technology. I want them to learn what can be discovered from the wonders of this world, and not from man-made creations. Right Portia? :* (I know you'll be reading this)

Of course I"m going to read this. I think techonology isn't bad to a certain extend depending on the age depends on how much they should have. My daughter is only 14 months old so she only plays with my ipod as a phone and it says the number and shows it to her so she is learning something while she is playing with it. She has a baby computer that has shapes and colors on it it does the same thing and a table that talks to her and a book that talks to her those things I find are okay for her. Now I would never let my daughter just play around with my ipod and do as she wants with it or have one of her own. I'm with you exploring the world around you and the stuff we have for my daughter is good for the car now this year coming she'll have a sibling so I see her being more interesting in play with her new siblings then with her own toys and stuff but she enjoys pretending to read on her own and stuff. Normal 14 month old behavior. To me moderation is never bad like a little bit of tv is okay and junk food here and there isn't to bad but not all day ever day.
