How can the people of Manila help resolve the heavy traffic in Manila?

It's Summertime in the Philippines, no classes for students, less commuters. But it's still very traffic in Metro Manila. I believe this is not only tge problem to resolve by the gov't but also by the people. Drivers should have better traffic discipline. Traffic enforcers should be serious abt their work.

In my opinion, if only the people would not have one car each for their family members, there would be less traffic. Plus, buses should be regulated too.

Bus companies can pay the government agencies to accommodate their new franchise applications. Too bad.

That too is one of the main factors why Manila has a heavy traffic.

Number Coding should be scrap now already. It is not effective anymore. A lot of households are now having two or more motor vehicles. They can buy another car or more cars to accommodate all the days of the Number Coding. As always what Simoleons wanted in Sim City simulation game strategy, "build more railways instead more roadways." Systematic Speed Limits must be imposed strategically in some roadways.

Yehey salamat risk_taker20. hahahaha I though I'm the only one lazy here in myLot. We are both already 6 years here in myLot but you have not yet reach your 1,000th post. Another more ideas I would like to share. . . . . Also based in Sim City, we need more large parks and greeneries in every cities of Metro Manila. And, not only just humongous malls in every corners of Metro Manila. More police and security visibilities from Baranggay Tanods in daylight and night time. So, people can walk freely and safely even while texting with their cellphones. "A walking city is a healthy city". And of course bicycles and jogging paths also. Police or Tanods should walk or bike also from time to time. Undercover or stealthy police also is a must also.

Hi risk_taker20! Traffic is not only a problem in Manila. It is a problem in many places here in the Philippines. But yes, the heaviest perhaps would be within the metro. Considering all the laws in place and various strategies such as number coding and color coding, traffic is still a problem. For one, I believe, the problem here is discipline among motorists and pedestrians. I drive my own car and I travel quite very often. One of the things I have noticed is that in most places I have been to, discipline among motorists and pedestrians is a huge problem. I think that we should encourage car pooling which is done even in most progressive countries in the world. We should also encourage the use of the MRT and LRT which provides mass transport which should help minimize the use of personal vehicles which can contribute to traffic congestion. Finally, since there are laws in place, the law enforcers must do their job well to implement these laws. Otherwise, these laws are useless.

yes, more trains...less cars for less traffic and we might be able to help conserve energy.

They are not interested in helping to ease the heavy traffic in Manila, all they want to do is to have more traffic, more people and more pollution. Good for the capital city and until it reach a breaking point, then at that time, they will get to enjoy the fruit of their hard labor by sufffering from the consequences of their own making.

When calamity hit us again, you can rest assure the authority in Manila will come out with at least a dozen of convenient excuses for the loss of life in this Captial City of Phillippine as usual, even though the scenario of an aftermath on natural disaster always repeat itself within this country.

Hi! i have gotten used to traffic in Metro Manila already. I consider it a part of my daily life. It's because of the motorist, not observing traffic rules, and also enforcers who are abusive. Another reason too is, more and more people wants to own a car. Getting car loans nowadays is easy that is why the number of cars in the streets are increasing. Buses too are increasing in the streets but most of them are not registered. Our Land Transportation Office is very lax when it comes to penalizing buses without permits. They can be easily bribed. This problem has been here even before and it is not getting any better. Ordinary people/taxpayers has no choice, even the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) is also worse. If only our government should focus first on this immediate need of the people, i think there are still solutions, sad thing is they have wrong priorities and no political will.

More Train and Railroads will surely help and minimize the traffic problems in the city. But to afford this one, the government should stop paying the national debt so we can prioritize on projects to develop the country. We can always seek to get exemption from the interest rate incurred with this debt.

I think that what is causing traffic is the undisciplined motorists and drivers. I especially want to hit those buses, motorcycles and taxi cabs in the Manila area. Drivers of this vehicles really thinks that they are the king of the roads. Traffic is generated because of those buses who stop and load and unload passengers in non loading and unloading zones. Motorcycles and taxi cabs really don't know how to give way to others and will really stick their vehicles around other vehicles. Not to mention, buses and motorcycles are the vehicles that are most prone to accidents which will eventually cause heavy traffic. If only drivers and motorists can follow lanes and be disciplined in their driving, traffic will surely end in Manila. But of course, road widening is also a solution especially to those narrow roads.

Frankly I do not know anymore how we can resolve this problem since no matter what they do to decrease cars on the road. Car owners is increasing always. I heard that MMDA is planning to put up additional roads on top of Pasig river to add more roads to our congested roads. So far the only solution I have in mind is for drivers to be disciplined and bus drivers follow the lanes that are assigned to them. So far the biggest traffic creators are those undisciplined drivers driving around the city which creates havoc on the roads.

As long as car companies continue to sell cars then there's nowhere else to go but more traffic. That's because more and more cars are added but our roads aren't getting bigger so it's only normal for all vehicle to clog the highways. Not unless they can design cars that do not use the roads, that is if they can fly, then that would help ease the problem. One solution I can think of, is for the government to make it more difficult to own a vehicle whether private or public and for the government to limit the maximum number of cars a single household can own. Second is to invest on mass transit system like more train couches, if not bigger capacity train couches or perhaps even a subway.

Flying cars! Cool! I have seen that in Discovery Channel. So let's wait for cars that will fly and roads on air will be built.

Hahaha! We cannot even afford to acquire more train and railroads, how much more those airmobile vehicles. Let's maje content first with dreams.

Yeah, flying cars sounds cool but I think it's going to be nightmare in the Philippines. Just imagine those flying dilapidated jeepneys falling out from the sky due to some mechanical malfunction. Unlike when they're on the roads, they can just push it aside while the driver fix the number but once they fly, there's nowhere else to go but down.

The keyword would be DISCIPLINE, TOLERANCE and PATIENCE, lol! More and more motorists have been either too neglectful or ignorant of road safety and flow of traffic, especially manning public utility vehicles as it seems more and more of them are not properly educated on road safety. Traffic enforcers on the other hand should be more strict.

hi, actually people can only do is to extend more their discipline on the road, and the one who can really resolve the problem is the government, and i have seen it now because some road are now under in construction by the government to widen it to reduce heavy traffic on the road.

As more and more families purchase cars, we can never get rid of the traffic in Manila. The number of cars multiply every year but the roads remain as they are. We have not built more roads in order to accommodate all the vehicles. Traffic is still a mess and I don't think anything can be done with it even with the addition of more traffic enforcers. One solution is to encourage car pooling. Another is to limit 1 car for every family. Improve the public transportation system so that more will be encouraged to ride and conserve in fuel. The LRT and MRT have become effective means of transport but they are not enough and are always filled to the rafters. Another skyway perhaps?

road renovations should be the first one to do actually. manila is overcrowded. i guess there is really not much to do unless the taxes we pay goes to projects instead on the pockets of politicians.
