Is freedom from earthy bondages what doctors call 'Depression?'

When one is free from all earthy and material things, society doesn't matter to him/her, gives up one's career, passions, money, obsessions... to search beyond eternity and within oneself, can survive with just the basic needs... sometimes doctors call this 'Depression' and an 'Abnormality'. Why so?

From our society point of view i think it`s ok to call it abnormality because the large majority of people are slaves of this material world but it can`t be depression. The monks for example are some of the happiest people of this planet and from a religious point of view this is the ultimate freedom the human being can achieve. It can be depression only if you start to miss your way of living before. But if you really can free yourself from this material world then that can bring you a great happiness.

I tasted a time I got true freedom, freedom from the bondage of being a mother, a wife, a daughter, a professional, even being a human... u can read it here: "The Day I got lost" in kaberic.wordpress.com :)

I would have called it a mid-life crisis, or alternatively, an awakening. How do you feel about it? Do you think it is depression? Lash

Mid-life crisis is a phase in when the world views you as a successful person, but you begin to lose direction and purpose in life. Coupled with some external factors like increased debt or maybe loss of someone special, it leads you to start doubting your own existence. I don't know whether you can coin the term as 'awakening' or 'depression', but it certainly exists. It's like being a teenager once again; and growing up to a more awakening situation.

When a person gives up everything even his basic needs, food, cloth, shelters etc i.e who does not plan to do anything to get his basic needs and looks into his inner soul then it is true enlightment. But if you throw ur worldly possessions just for ur failures, guilt etc and still very much planned about basic needs. That`s certainly depression. Enlightment comes with time and true patience and perseverence. If you can sustain freeness from any bonds and be happy with yourselves under any conditions, after many changes, it is still abnormal. But you will enjoy eternity.
