What was RCB thinking sending Gayle 2nd down?

I really did not understand what RCB was trying to do by sending Gayle down the order in a T20 match. I mean he has been in explosive form, hitting sixes for fun and suddenly he is demoted to 2nd down. Does anyone see any sense in that move? Cheers! Ram

I think sending Chris Gayle in at no.3 position is unnecessary, in all the other matches which RCB won Chris Gayle was the opener and stayed for a long scoring well. Yesterday also RCB won the match because of AB de Villiers innings, but sending in Chris Gayle at No.3 doesn't make sense ...

Yes. Apparently he was not well and hence they were forced to send him down the order. Cheers! Ram

He should send as a opener in every match as that give some time for him to settle down in the crease and later he goes on attack. But when he comes to bat in middle order, then the balls that he can use to settle down will be very less.

Yes, it is true. But apparently he was ill and hence they were forced to send him down in the order. Cheers! Ram

I too was surprised to read that Chris Gayle was sent lower down the order. However, the newspaper (Hindustan Times) also reports that he was slightly unfit for the match, and that is why he was not sent at the top of the order, to avoid too much stress.

Yes, that is true. That turned out to be the actual reason for him coming down to bat. Cheers! Ram

I think they wanted Gayle to hit sixes in the closure of the innings. But Gayle failed.I think RCB were wrong in sending Gayle 2nd down.I agree with you.

Apparently he was not well. Fortunately for RCB, Dilshan and AB did the job. Cheers! Ram

I think RCB wanted a good start from the openers and send Gayle to fire up in the closure of innings but Openers failed,so did Gayle.

He was unwell at the last moment. I too have never seen him bat down the order, always opening!

Yes, heard that later on. Anyway AB and Dilshan ensured that he was not missed. Cheers! Ram
